Dowie = gobshite.

I can't think of a manager I would less want at our club.

ROKERITE Come on Sir John! You tarnished your reputation with your disgusting treatment of Brendan Rodgers; restore your reputation by appointing Ian Dowie.

Appointing Dowie would not restore Madejski's reputation, it would cement it.

Focher Dowie's whole career runs off the back of half a season at Palace.

He has achieved absolutely nothing at any other club apart from Oldham

Please inform what he achieved at Oldham? (and don't play the 'made the play off's' card he spent a small fortune and went out.)
erm....he got Oldham into the play-offs

How else did he get the Palace job?

Have we been linked with Paul Jewell or Sam Allardyce yet? Rather either of these than the ID...

he got Oldham into the play offs having spent shit loads of money and they didn't go up, i don't really call that a successful achievement.

He didnt actually spend any more than the other teams around the top of the league that year, and as we have seen here before, its more about how well you can organise and motivate a squad than how much you spend

I think he would be ok, not on my dream shortlist, but I wouldnt be spitting feathers if he came in

and subsequently got the Palace job.... you are arguing with yourself Focher, there is no argument after all.

Palace were kicking stones each game in the relegation zone when he joined, they ended up a Premier team.

You cannot change history

 I believe 'achievment' means success in football, maybe you don't. Dowie did not achieve any success at Oldham because he spent large sums of money when he arrived, and when he left they were still in league 1. I don't give a monkeys if that got him the Palace job.

You cant change history you're totally right, and history says that Dowie has failed once in the play offs, won the play offs once, got relegated once, and been sacked 4 times. That is a shit record.

The relegated once bit and being sacked 4 times sounds bad, but the rest sounds pretty good to me right now.

Except he didnt really spend more than the other teams in and around the top so saying he spent large sums of money is just a load a rollocks

He might have been sacked 4 times, but most managers get the sack at some point, even Coppell got sacked!!

He has picked some shit jobs

He spent £1.2m, which for a league 1 club in 2002 was a hell of a lot of money!!!!

nor can i ! Graham Sharp was one of them i think 8)

I do know the chairman paid out £1.2m on permenant and loan signings that season that virtually sent them under, i just can't find out on who.

Im no good at this presenting an argument lark, although i am accurate in saying that Dowie has a very bad managerial record.

Oldham - did fine
Palace - did pretty well
Charlton - did badly
Coventry - did OK
QPR - did as well as any QPR manager is allowed to do !

It's a pretty ordinary record. Taken teams to playoffs and promotions, had a relegation. Spent time in the top flight, had some tough jobs.

It's not very bad, or even bad. it's nothing brilliant though. It's better than Darren Ferguson but not as good as Alex Ferguson.

How in gods name do you work that out? Ferguson has had 2 BACK TO BACK promotions, and no relegations.
