Royal Rother W&E 1 - 0 AFC Hayes

Phew, bit of a struggle to get one in the back of the net today, thanks mainly to a terrific display by the Hayes 'keeper. Had a good chat with us fans behind the goal as well, so top marks to him. We also had 3 shots cleared off the line.

For anyone interested, here's the winning goal, courtesy of my 10yo on a mobile phone.

Hi RR, all ready for Cheltenham ? This brings back memories of my two career apps for W&E :-) Sadly, my boots kept coming off in the mud so I had to move elsewhere  Are you a regular at Stag Meadow ?

I am indeed a regular. My son and I went to our 1st game December 08 and have only missed 2 home games since I think.

Still unbeaten in the league this season and 14 points clear, albeit played 4 more games than our arch rivals AFC Totton, we are certainly in the driving seat and look a marked cut above the rest apart from the aftorementioned.

Although it's in a bit of a state now, the pitch has actually been one of our strong points this season. Whilst everyone else has had game after game postponed ours has been playable all through (apart from when 6 inches of snow was on it) and this has enabled us to build up a great cushion. Totton have to play 2 games every week until the end of the season which is a massive task.

As for Chelters, well, I really haven't watched much at all this season so although I'll tune in, the horses (apart from the superstars) won't mean much to me I'm afraid.

Still, YouTube has some good old footage to keep me interested from time to time!

They were featured in The Sun recently... (explains what has happened up there - fair play to them for just keeping the club going with no money.)

Very similar to Lancaster City a couple of years ago (and they're ranked 3rd now)

... think it got a brief mention much higher up this thread or maybe on the 'Legends' (or not) - threads but Paul Brayson landed up there - earlier this season I think, just before all the money went - can't remember where he went soon after - another club in that area though.

... had an idea it might have been Newcastle Blue Star but they folded before the 09/10 season started so I think that's where he'd joined Durham from! :?

Found him on 'wiki' seems he's now with Blyth Spartans.

RE the PPG (Points Per Game) Index showing W&E top of the upper levels of the Pyramid: - for interest (maybe  ) the next level down has a similar table - used to resolve who is eligible for promotion to STEP04 (where CONFERENCE is STEP01) when there's too many applicants.

The only clubs at that level with an Index higher than W&E are as follows:

Barwell - Midland Alliance - 2.75
Newcastle Town - North West Counties Premier - 3.00 - i.e 100% record!
Daventry Town - United Counties Premier - 2.76

Paul Brayson now plays for Blyth Spartans (as you already know) and has netted 15 or so goals so far

Off to Bracknell Town v Paulton Rovers this evening with floyde, Compo, and FLTLR. I suspect a heavy away win is in the pipeline...

Could well be seeing as Bracknell have only managed 3 points (1 win) all season (from 21 games) and have a goal difference of -72. Amazingly though they're still only 8 points off safety!

More than anything though they show what having money means even at Step 4, they have the smallest budget in the Southern League a manager, in David Tuttle, who gets no recompense whatsoever and despite his age and injury was naming himself as a substitute recently. Unsurprisingly given the nest to no money situation their current squad would strunggle at Step 5 let alone where they are now, still at least they keep trying!

You have to think though, given the number of non league clubs in the area and the general lack of funding, that perhaps they should merge with Wokingham & Emmbrook (who will be playing at Larges Lane next season anyway) and have one club called Brackingham United (or something) that can generate much more interest and sponsorship than either can individually.

Apologies if this is a Dodd but thought it should be in this thread and couldn't see it:

Blue Square Premier side Mansfield Town are offering fans the chance to pay whatever they want to see their home game against Gateshead on Saturday.

The club's owners thought up the scheme to boost the crowd and thank fans and the people of Mansfield for their support since the 2008 takeover.

A great gesture IMO.

Bracknell beaten 3-0 tonight with all the goals in a one sided 1st half on a pitch which wasn't the greatest. At least they showed some spirit and fight in the 2nd half to not concede any more in front of the 65 odd supporters that were there.

It was 66 Compo as counted by FLTLR, which equates to each person making up 1.52% of the attendance.

Bracknell were obviously outclassed last night as the 3-0 half time scoreline suggests. Kicking downhill, Paulton simply overpowered their opponents. A great 20-22 yard finish on about 10 minutes was followed by a close range tap-in on around the half hour mark, and then right on half time a disputed tap in after the 'keeper parried a cross to the Paulton striker. In truth it was all one way traffic, Bracknell got one shot on goal throughout the 45, and Paulton should really have had a hatful. Difficult to tell what led to the change in fortunes second half, but it appeared the slope had an effect on proceedings, and that coupled with Bracknell's extremely spirited display means they can at least hold their heads up high on the back of an improved showing. It's fair to say that Paulton had them at arms length for the most part, although they had a couple of scares but nothing to overtly worry them. On the other hand, Paulton squandered at least three more excellent opportunities as they clearly had the ability to turn the Bracknell defence with ease. Credit to the young Bracknell 'keeper, too, who could only have been around the 19/20 year old region. He had a near flawless game and made some good saves to keep the scoreline respectable. It's not nice when shots are raining down on you game in game out but if he keeps that level of performance up then it won't be long before he'll find himself playing at the same sort of level, if not higher up the pyramid, in months/years to come. Needs to bulk up a bit though...

Truth be told, Paulton were a well drilled side and played some good football, the chasm between the sides was all to obvious to see, and if they had their shooting boots on they'd have had at least 10 goals.
