Adam off to Spurs now...

by Barry the bird boggler » 19 Feb 2010 08:15

Latest made up rubbish from the Mirror....

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is interested in signing Reading’s Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici , according to the Daily Mirror.

The 24 year-old has made the number one slot at the Madejski Stadium his own this season and starred in Reading’s FA Cup defeat of Liverpool. Tottenham boss Redknapp has reportedly been impressed enough to line him up as competition for Heurelho Gomes .

Federici came to England and signed for Reading in 2005. He made several substitute appearances in the Premier League during Reading’s time in the top flight. Bizarrely, Federici suffered an injury setback while on loan at Maidenhead, breaking an ankle having fallen down a well on his way back from a nightclub.

The Australian stopper attracted interest from Liverpool last month and recently said, "I want to play in the Premier League and I believe I will one day – whether it is with Reading or somewhere else.

"There has been a fair bit of interest from all over the place."

Federici would reportedly cost Tottenham around £2million to bring him to White Hart Lane.

£2m? Sold...

Still not convinced by him, and for that money, and it making our finances that bit more secure with some promising youngsters here to possibly take his place, I'd sell at that price.

Well Spurs do seem to be on the look for a younger keeper. Almost got that Begovic until Redknapp's back handed ways caught up with him and Begovic went to Stoke.

Still cant see this as more than paper talk though.

At this stage of his career Feds would be daft to go and sit on the bench at Tottenham. He needs to keep playing and impressing.

As we know though money talks.

He came on against Spurs and Blackburn when Marcus got injured but don't think he started any games in the Premiership.

I still don't understand why you and others aren't convinced by him yet. He's saved our bacon numerous times and a lot of people forget this is his first professional contract. He started off for some mediocre Australian side and came here looking for a career (other than bar work  ). He's had trials at numerous clubs until Reading snapped him up. He's been on loan at Carshalton and Southend doing well, and now this is his first full season with us. He's had an awful defence in front of him for the first part of the season and it's not easy stepping into the no.1 jersey that had belonged to Hahnemann.
As for the promising youngsters, Anderson, McCarthy and Locke definitely. Not sure about Hamer. My mate is a Brentford supporter and has been for 15/14 yrs now. He doesn't rate hamer at all. Did well in a shite league but so error prone, lacking in concentration and the ball tended to go through his body a fair bit. In McCarthy, Anderson and Locke I think we have better prospects personally and wouldn't surprise me to see him sold in the summer.

Last 4 leagues games has made me think completely differently... he has the potential. A couple of saves verses Palace a keeper would normally parry, whereas Federici caught them.

Yes he does seem able to do that, on a number of occasions he's managed to save at full stretch and hold the basll rather than turn the ball out for a corner so there's definitely something there to work on it's just whether we can keep him if a Premiership club does table an offer.

Mind you I think McCarthy is also rated but some managers in the Premiership and so we could find him being flogged off for a cash + appearances + sell on type of deal.

Would rather see Hamer get flogged off on the cheap to a league 1 team and keep McCarthy

I think Spurs will be after a keeper, to be number 2 to Gomes next season, Carlo is clearly done for, they need someone. £2million wouldn't be much for them. Difficult one, Federic can say he wants to play in the PRem, that's fine but if he goes to Spurs then he doesn't play. Simple as that. From Spurs point of view wouldn't be a horrific bit of business, from our view I think it would be decent business to be honest but for Adam he'd be better staying here. He's had to wait what 4 years? To become regular number 1 here, if he really wants to just do an Ashdown and throw whatever potential he had down the toilet and sit on the bench for 3 years and onwards then go to Spurs.

I like him. I think he'll be a great keeper for us (perhaps not up to the standards of Shaka, or Hahnemann, but those two set standards damn high) if he stays.

But for £2m we can flog him, get in someone semi decent and experienced and bring through Hamer / Andersen / McCarthy and that won't cost us close to £2m. Or we could even just go straight with Hamer / Andersen, especially if we go down.

£2m offered, the answer is a no brainer for us. I think he'd be better off staying though.

He makes too many mistakes for me

He was shit when he first came over, worked hard and earnt his chance as a cheap backup to our excellent and durable first choice

He can make some excellent saves, which is his job, but his blunders are a bit too often to be a decent champioship keeper

Your mate must be about the only one who didnt rate Hamer then by the way, although it does sound like McCarthy is the one to look out for and I think Hamer is a bit too slight to make it
