W&E 2-1 Gosport Borough

Phew, that was close. Added time winner from the prolific Michael Chennells saw the unbeaten season extended to 32 games. Back to 19 points clear with (for us) 10 games left, for AFC Totton, 15 games left. Season ends 24th April.

... the Zamaretto Southern League site times the goal for Chennells @ 84' BUT the Royalists' club site does report it as being in stoppage time -
.... probably the League officials been at their sponsors product!

... I popped down to Fleet Spurs to see if AFC Aldermaston could possibly notch their first point in WESSEX Division One, or more likely to see just how bad they were 8) - 0 points from 27 starts.

... pleasantly surprised - it wasn't the rout I was expecting - seems they've appointed a new management team and gave Fleet Spurs in upper mid-table quite a scare before going down 3-0.
Would expect them to get something before the end of the season.

Other Tuesday NL 'highlights':
- Marlow & Slough both won at home
- Bracknell lost (again) but this time only 0-1 @ Larges La vs Bedfont Green
- Thatcham drew 1-1 H v Frome
- RTFC made it into the B&B Trophy Final for the 2nd year running with a 2-0 win @ Abingdon Town - now play either Newport Pagnell (which would be a repeat of last years Final) or Sandhurst Town.
- their closest rivals in the Hellenic Premier - Almondsbury Town - suffered a shock home defeat 0-2 vs Oxford City 'Nomads'.
- Witney were battered 2-4 at home to Flackwell Heath  - good news for Binfield who go there this Saturday.
- in Wokingham's division leaders Thame Utd won again 2-0 H v Henley
- Hartley Wintney progressed to the next round of the Aldershot Senior Cup with a 3-2 win at Alton.

I also got in a sneaky extra game on Monday night @ Stubbs Lane where Binfield overcame a stubborn Shrivenham 3-1.

Tomorrow's NL 'local' games:-

... though just for info ...

FA Trophy Semi-Finals
Kidderminster Harriers v Stevenage Borough
Salisbury v Barrow

CONFS
Basingstoke Town v Dover Athletic
Maidenhead United v Hampton and Richmond Borough
Staines Town v Woking
Newport County @ home tonight (Fri 12th ) & Mon 15th – 4 points sees them Champions (I think)

UPDATE : 'Exiles' beat Bps Stortford 1-0 last night (Friday) - goal in the first minute: attendance 3084 - largest crowd for a League match since H game with Wolves 22 years ago.
Confirmed they only need 1 point for the title - probably when they host Havant & Waterlooville on Monday night - might get an even bigger gate?

SOUTHP
Didcot Town v Bashley
Farnborough v Merthyr Tydfil
SOUTH1M
Biggleswade Town v Slough Town
Burnham v AFC Sudbury
Leighton Town v Marlow
SOUTH1SW
Andover v Bracknell Town
Bedfont Green v AFC Totton @ Windsor & Eton
Bridgwater Town v Windsor & Eton
Cinderford Town v Thatcham Town
Hungerford Town v Mangotsfield United
Uxbridge v Abingdon United

ISTH1S
Fleet Town v Croydon Athletic

CCLP
Camberley Town v Horley Town
Colliers Wood United v Ash United
Epsom & Ewell v Cove
Sandhurst Town v Hanworth Villa
CCL1
CB Hounslow United v Hartley Wintney
Cobham v Farnham Town
Frimley Green v Farleigh Rovers
Division One Challenge Cup – Semi-final
Eversley v Croydon Municipal

HELLP
Ascot United v Almondsbury Town
Oxford City Nomads v Reading Town
Witney Utd v Binfield
HELL1E
Chinnor v Henley Town
Eton Wick v Newbury
Holyport v Chalfont Wasps
Kintbury Rangers v Didcot Town Reserves
Penn & Tylers Green v Wokingham & Emmbrook
Thame United v Finchampstead
Woodley Town w/o a game this w/e - but they did win (aet & pens) in the League Cup at Premier club Witney on Thursday.
Not sure who they've got in the Q-F draw will be either Oxford City Nomads, Slimbridge or Almondsbury Town - ties probably to be played from midweek w/c 22/3 - so it would be an 'Away' match unless they can 'borrow' a floodlit ground.

WESS1
Farnborough North End v United Services Portsmouth
Fleet Spurs v Amesbury Town
Tadley Calleva v Horndean

Shock! Horror! Bus Crash! W&E LOSE? Gives Totton hope.

Ark Royal Shock! Horror! Bus Crash! W&E LOSE? Gives Totton hope.

... don't think Bridgwater can be that shabby either, they are up in third place -

AFC Totton face three home games this week - could well 'sort 'em out' - shame W&E's lodgers couldn't help them out yesterday.

H Paulton Rovers Tue 16 March 2010
H North Leigh Thu 18 March 2010
H Thatcham Town Sat 20 March 2010

.. then three away games in quick succession the following week - five games is an awful lot to catch up - W&E only have three games in that same period H v Ciren T; A v Taunton and A v Bps Cleeve.
Totton will be desperate to still be in the hunt on the 10th April when they play host to the Royalists. 8)

Just for info re the Hellenic League Cup I mentioned in the preview above - here's the full Q-F draw:-

Abingdon Town v Shrivenham Saturday, 03 April 2010
Almondsbury Town v Oxford City Nomads Wednesday, 31 March 2010
Ardley United v Reading Town Thursday, 25 March 2010
Slimbridge v Woodley Town Saturday, 03 April 2010

... in some way, although Woodley Town have drawn the other STEP06 (Div One) club in the last eight, it's actually one of the tougher matches they could have had.
Slimbridge won the Hellenic Premier a couple of seasons back but refused promotion to the Southern League and dropped back into County football for a spell. They're back now and storming along in 2nd Place in Div One (West) with games in hand.

I went to the Bedfont v Totton game yesterday and, although it's wrong to judge on one performance, Totton really didn't look that hot. Bedfont rested 4 of their better players and with a bit more firepower up front (where they were very weak until Chris Henry and Miner came on in the 2nd half) could well have got a result. That said, Totton also rested their best player Gosney until the 2nd half.

Totton's next (but one) game is at home to North Leigh who are on an amazing run of form, unbeaten since we thrashed them in Jan so I am hoping for a decent performance from them on Thursday. On Tuesday Totton have Paulton who will be desperate to get a result to help their play-off chances.

Paulton Rovers 0 - 1 North Leigh 13/03/2010
North Leigh 2 - 0 Yate Town 09/03/2010
North Leigh 4 - 0 Frome Town 06/03/2010
North Leigh 5 - 1 Gosport Borough 02/03/2010
North Leigh 1 - 1 Uxbridge 20/02/2010
North Leigh 2 - 1 Cirencester Town 16/02/2010
Gosport Borough 1 - 2 North Leigh 13/02/2010
North Leigh 1 - 1 Abingdon United 06/02/2010
Bridgwater Town 1 - 1 North Leigh 02/02/2010
Hungerford Town 0 - 1 North Leigh 30/01/2010
North Leigh 2 - 0 Taunton Town 55 26/01/2010

Newport County promoted after beating Havant & Waterlooville 2-0 tonight.

And we thought we got promoted early when we drew at Leicester.

Totton lost at home to Paulton Rovers last night (1st home defeat of the season) and now they have to play 2 bang in-form teams North Leigh and Mangotsfield plus Thatcham all in the space of the next 6 days.

I could yet see Bridgwater pipping them for 2nd place.

PS Michael Meaker scored another hat-trick for Mangotsfield last night.

... a few other 'local' scores from last nights (Tue 16th) games:-

CONF-S
Hampton and Richmond Borough 3 - 1 Bath City
Maidenhead United 0 - 0 Braintree Town
Thurrock 2 - 2 Woking

SOUTHP
Didcot Town 1-1 Truro
Farnborough are at home to Bedford Town tonight (Wednesday)
SOUTH1M
Barton Rovers 0-1 Burnham - Burnham now 6 points clear of Hitchin but have played three games more.
Marlow 1-1 Arlesey Town
SOUTH1SW
Bedfont G 0-4 Bridgwater
Bracknell 0-2 Hungerford Town att only 41 - interesting to see how many Wokkers get when they play their first 'groundshare' match @ Larges Lane under lights in the Hellenic 1 East (v Rayners La) on Thursday
Uxbridge 0-2 Thatcham Town
VT FC 7-0 Abingdon Utd

CCLP
Cove 4-1 Raynes Pk Vale
CCL1
Farnham Town 0-2 South Park
Frimley Green 2-1 Chobham
Hartley Wintney 1-2 Cobham
B&B Trophy Semi-Final
Newport Pagnell Town 5-3 Sandhurst Town
- Final (venue tba) is a repeat of last years won by Reading Town @ Abingdon Utd's Northcourt Rd.

HELLENIC Premier
Abingdon Town 1-0 Wantage Town
Kidlington 2-2 Witney Town att 105
Marlow Utd 0-0 RTFC
HELLENIC One East
Henley Town 0-1 Thame Utd

Result from Monday night :
Binfield 2-1 Highworth - att 115 - I was here (again 8) )- I like Monday night football and Stubbs La - though well tucked away north of Binfield 'village' up by the Church - is only a 20 min dash down the A329(M) - F^{&ing roadworks permitting  - saw a cracking game between two well-matched sides - not too dissimilar to last nights game at the MadStad - with the team in form eventually getting a late winner, having struggled against well organized and 'commited' opponents. The 'Moles' look to be securing 5th place which is a great achievement in their first season at this level. They are the 2nd highest supported club in the Premier too. (behind Witney and roughly level with Kidlington)
Now on a run of eight straight wins - have two games in quick succession (Thursday - Cup and Saturday - League ) at Scours Lane now! :?

WESSEX One
Farnborough North End 4-4 Andover New Street

Fox Talbot I was hoping for an update on life at the Kassam.

... bit high up the Pyramid for me - I know Stevenage won 1-0 v Histon last night and are now 4 points clear of our 'buddies' who live in a three-sided ground - near the City of Screaming Tyres
I'm afraid I can't countenance including them as 'local' in my round-ups! 8)

But just for you - they got 'done' 1-2 @ the Kassam last week by Hayes and Yeading - irony of ironies it was their erstwhile fave Steve Basham (out on loan to H&Y from Luton) who got both goals too! :P

.... a few results from last night (Wed 17th) with 'local' interest:-

Southern Premier
Farnborough 6-1 Bedford - 'boro now 15 pts clear chasing pack only have 10 games left - Nuneaton might yet overhaul everyone as they still have 14 games to play.

Hellenic Premier
Hook Norton 1-4 Almondsbury Town - Almonds now 5 points behind RTFC with 3 games in hand :?

Wessex One
AFC Aldermaston 1-3 United Services Portsmouth - first point of the season still eludes AFC - now P30 L30 - but at least they aren't getting 'thrapesed' every week.- hope to see if they can get something on Saturday down nr the New Forest A v Verwood - doubtful - Home side are 8th wth quite a decent home record. :(

Hmm, getting a bit interesting in the Zam S&W League now. W&E lost 1-0 to Cirencester who had 8 (EIGHT) players booked (we didn't have one player carded) - and totally crocked our 'keeper so we had to put an outfield player between the sticks for the whole of the 2nd half.

In trying to protect the 'keeper we totally lost our form / shape and it looks like a case of the litters might be setting in.

Meanwhile AFC Totton thrashed Thatcham and have closed to 10 points with 3 games in hand, plus we still have to go their place.

Our reserve 'keeper is very young and although I've not seen much of him, he has looked a shot stopper but not a commanding presence and this could hinder our run in massively. I do wonder whether Scott will sign a short-term replacement for Bullivant because it did look like a bad injury.

Oh dear!
