Ah, Habbin. That brings back memories. I remember one game at Elm Park in the early 70s, Habbin missed a sitter and some old git behind me yelled 'Habbin you pregnant lobster!'

I didn't know what he meant, but it stuck with me.

Great little player. First game I took my wife to was Southport when we won 8-0 with Habbin scoring a great goal with an overhead "bicycle kick". Trouble is she thought all games were like that and when the next was a bore draw she never went again!

Gawd. Dick was a great little player at inside left or left wing, bowling along with his Mr Whippy looks.

Nasty old battering, there.

A better link is http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/Balaclavaclad-burglars-hit-exstriker-with.6169824.jp

Even stranger is apparently he didn't have a football career before 1975 (if you can call playing for Rotherham a football career of course!)

Looks awful, but I'm glad it wasn't as serious as I feared from the opening post. I liked Habbin, a player who divided the fans. Was gutted when he went back to Rotherham. From the photo, it looks like he retains a vestige of his 70s mullet.

Scored in first game I went to Vs Preston in 1971 - we won 1-0.

Also remember a goal from him Vs Burnley in league cup they were old Div 1 then

I can remember the old gits on the EP terraces always giving Dick some stick. They just seemed to have it in for him - maybe because of his blonde hair. He was brilliant in Mansell's 69/70 'Mighty Midgets' team.

I bet he still holds the record for playing the most league games in a season at 48 after he was transferred to Rovrum mid-season.

Get well soon Dick.

Before home games he would walk around the pitch reading the matchday programme. Always happy to sign autographs, although he never said much. Got several progs with his scrawl on them.
