Oh dear indeed! its catching

Reading Town drew their home game with Binfield today 1-1 in front of their biggest crowd of the season (123)

Thats their third draw in a row, meanwhile Almondsbury (three games in hand, and only 3 points behind) thrashed Shrivenham 4-1 away

Scours Lane facilities are improving with each visit (to meet Southern League criteria), whilst the team are doing their best to blow the very reason for them

The rest of the scores from today:-

CONFS
Welling 3-1 Maidenhead Utd
Woking 4-1 Basingstoke

Hampton & R 4-1 Eastleigh - must've eased a few twitchy Beavers ! :?
Havant & W 1-0 Staines
Thurrock 2-1 Newport - only the 2nd league defeat of the season

SOUTHERN Prem
Hemel Hempstead Town 1-2 Didcot Town
Rugby Town 0-4 Farnborough
SOUTHERN Div 1 Midland
Burnham 1-2 Bury Town - not a game they'll have wanted to drop points in - Bury now up to 2nd with games in hand on leaders Burnham
Romulus 0-0 Marlow
Slough Town 3-3 Atherstone Town
Stourport Swifts 0-0 Beaconsfield SYCOB

... Aylesbury Utd won only their 2nd league game and are now off the bottom but with only 8 matches left are 9 points adrift of possible 'safety'.

SOUTHERN Div 1 S&W
Abingdon United 4-1 Andover
AFC Totton 5-1 Thatcham Town
Frome Town 3-1 Bedfont Green
Hungerford Town 1-1 Gosport Borough
Mangotsfield United 9-0 [NINE! :( ] Bracknell Town - Meaker got two
Windsor & Eton 0-1 Cirencester Town

ISTH1S
Godalming Town 1-2 Ramsgate
Fleet T won 2-1 @ Chatham

CCLP
Ash United 3-0 Camberley Town
Egham Town 2-2 Cove
Sandhurst Town 5-0 Dorking
CCL1
Coulsden Utd 0-4 Hartley Wintney
- ended up at this one as our first choice at Verwood (below) fell victim to torrential rain on the South Coast.
This was also a rather soggy drizzly affair HW coasted to a four goal lead fairly early on 1st half - the notable Mr Spence notched from a retaken penalty.
We thought we'd then see a real hammering but HW went soggy 2nd Half and Coulsdon though limited, threw everything they had but they just weren't good enough to score. No mystery why they've only got 1 point all season.
Bizarre location way up on top of a hill off the A23 a few miles south of Croydon. Huge new estate (Netherne Village) has been built right across one of the roads in to the ground make it impossible to thread your way through. Massive sort of water Tower/Luxury Flat complex - one esteemed resident of which is supposedly our former manager Sir Steve C.!

Eversley 2-1 Farleigh Rovers

HELLENIC Premier
Abingdon Town 2-1 Flackwell Heath
Ascot United 2-3 Shortwood United
Reading Town 1-1 Binfield
Wantage Town 1-3 Bicester Town - Freds really gone off the boil now - they certainly would not have expected to get beat by strugglers Bicester
HELLENIC Div 1 East
Finchampstead 3-3 Chinnor
Henley Town PP Penn & Tylers Green
Newbury 3-4 South Kilburn
Thame United 2-0 Rayners Lane
Woodley Town 2-1 Kintbury Rangers
Reading Senior Cup Quarter Final KO 14:00
Mortimer 0-2 Wokingham & Emmbrook

WESSEX Div 1
Farnborough North End PP East Cowes Victoria
Fleet Spurs 5-1 Shaftesbury [i]
Tadley Calleva 1-5 Petersfield Town
Verwood PP AFC Aldermaston

How do you end up at all these places? its genius, I've quite literally never heard of Coulsden United. Had you travelled down to Verwood and then just turned round? Keep up the good work!

As for Sir Stevie C - I do seem to remember him living in a "converted water tower" atleast i'm sure it was mentioned somewhere

... - as you may observe above, its so obscure its prone to repeated spelling mistakes (and not just mine!) - I've seen it written as Coulsden and Coulsdon on various official League sites too.

.... {everyone else may as well go and pick navel Fluff or something - here's a recent History lesson :P - or you could read on if you've had trouble sleeping of late :wink: }

...basically Coulsdon United grew out of a merger of two very crap Combined Counties Division One teams: Salfords (formerly Monotype) and Coulsdon Town (formerly Netherne).

On recent playing records Coulsdon seems to have been a composite/amalgam of everything poor about the sides involved.

The area is actually Netherne and 'Netherne Village' (also a former name of the current club) is now a very exclusive looking residential complex - possibly built up around the old Hospital - the Tower ("Chez Coppell"? ) in the middle of the estate is the somewhat dominant feature (I must've driven round nearly all of it trying to find a way through to Coulsdon's ground also known as Netherne CASC = Community Amateur Sports Club.)

Odd that a Hospital building should dominate the skyline - its not the only one that does around this bit of Sarf Lahnden either - go a few miles further east and north past Whyteleafe (Isthmian One South) and up towards Warlingham/Farleigh where you might find these two other CCL1 clubs very well tucked away - (actually this season Warlingham have 'moved in' with Merstham - not sure for how long) - overshadowed by another large and grandiose structure that was once part of an Institute of some medical variety?

I actually took a closer look on multimap when I got home and there might be a route through south to north - but one that only a few locals would know/risk - and you'd be extremely unlikely to be given correct directions even if you could find anyone to ask! Even less so if you looked like a right dodgy 'Whitley-type' as per my mate - actually my Lad looked pretty scruffy too and was glued to his Nintendo!

...the club is a fairly unspectacular bundle of single storey function rooms and changing rooms with a small-ish bar - run by a couple who are essentially Mr & Mrs Coulsdon Utd FC (Bob & Dot)
The Programme - Dot fished the only surviving one out from behind the bar for us - states somewhat ruefully that they are uncertain of their future at this level due to ground grading rules - they are unlikely to ever be granted planning permission for lights in this part of Surrey and I doubt if they would really countenance a lengthy spell in the Surrey leagues - of which there are a few 'versions' they could possibly enter.

As to why Coulsdon this PM - fortunately I found out about Verwood being OFF at about 12:20 ish (we can't normally set off for anywhere until I've dropped my youngest off to his Music lesson at 13:00) and My Lad is always asked to pick three or four possibles from the list of 'new' grounds in range that day - so we just plumped for the next one on his list ! :D

Finally IF you ARE ever contemplating a visit to Coulsdon - exit M25 jn 7 - head north on the A23 and after about 2 miles look right for the 'Full Monty Cafe' - this is on the corner of 'Woodplace Lane' which goes over the railway line then winds sharply back south (right) and up a very steep hill - on the left at the top, with the aformentioned Tower in view 200 odd yds ahead, is Coulsdon Utd FC.

Another great night for Bracknell Town. 29 points from safety with 10 to play, needing a win to avoid relegation...

Bracknell 0 North Leigh 9

North Leigh does the double with a remarkable 17-0 aggregate, with 15 of the 17 goals coming in the 2nd halves of both games.

27th consecutive defeat in all competitions. 140 goals against in 33 games in the league (a further 20 conceded in 4 cup games) and a league goal difference of -121

Bracknell also missed a penalty at 0-1 that missed so high that it made Shane Long's effort v Robbie Savage look clinical.

Both W&E and AFC Totton recorded good away wins (Totton's particularly impressive in that Mangotsfield are a team in form and it as something like Totton's 5th game in 11 days).

Totton now have 6 games in 14 days, all against teams in the top 8, 4 of them away from home.

If they get through that lot and still have a realistic chance of overhauling Windsor then they will have done bloody well.

...in the words of that extremely annoying Welsh Nerk - M.Boyce -
"I know; cos I was there!"

... a mixture of drizzle and the prospect of no clubhouse, meant I ditched my first choice of Holyport v Newbury and headed over to Larges Lane.
Young Lad in a suit on the gate was apologetic about their current form - once he'd established I was a neutral - though I did grow up in Bracknell. He said the biggest problem was the lack of any money.
Also the ground looked almost exactly as I remembered it from my previous visit back in late '96.
As Mr AS states above - it was only 0-2 at H/T and that included a dreadful penalty miss which would have made it 1-1 and maybe given Robins a bit of fight about them.
Any spirit dissipated with a very late goal in the first half - astonishingly poor keeping on his near post - and a glut at the start of the 2nd.
N.Leigh were fast strong and clinical - Bracknell simply gave up; from Keeper through to front line. Shame cos they still have a bit of a following - crowd was only 50 odd but some loud support at times.
Don't think the management staff seem too bothered either - were some desultory niggles going on from the touchline with their own players - BUT Visibly AND Audibly no leadership ON or OFF the pitch. The keeper was obviously fed-up with the lack of any cover around him and though performed a few miracles had stopped trying by the end.
North Leigh could easily have had double figures but were coasting a bit late on. The Lad Taylor up front looked a bit special too.

... some other 'local' scores:

CONF-South
Basingstoke 0-1 Staines
Thurrock 2-2 Maidenhead
Woking 3-1 Hampton & R

SOUTHERN - Prem
Didcot visit Supermarine tonight (Wed)
One Midland
Barton Rovers 3-3 Slough
Burnham 2-2 Atherstone
Soham Town 2-1 Marlow
One S&W
..as well as the games mentioned above other local sides in action:
Abingdon Utd 1-4 Hungerford Town
Thatcham 5-2 AFC Hayes

North Hants Cup: Fleet Town 2-1 Winchester City
CCLP
Badshot Lea 6-5 Dorking - and this was my 'third' choice :| :o
Sandhurst Town 2-1 Wembley
CCL1
Frimley Gn 0-0 Worcester Park

CCL Cup Semi: Camberley 0-4 Cove

Hellenic Premier - some 'big' games on in this last night...
Ascot 0-3 Abingdon Town
Malmesbury Vics 0-2 Almondsbury Town :?
Marlow Utd 1-5 Witney
Wantage 1-1 Shortwood

... and most significantly perhaps...

RTFC 0-1 Flackwell Heath  - RTFC have now been 'caught' by Almonds but stay first on GD - though have played three games more. There are a couple of 'neutral' reports on the Hellenic Gossip Forum that 'Drummer Boy' set up -

- essentially there was a very serious injury to a Flackwell player with only about 5 mins left and the game was delayed for over an hour - with all sorts of referrals to League Officials etc etc
Ref wanted to abandon the game - concerned about the risk of players coming back out again so long after the game had stopped and so late at night. Reportedly the RTFC manager Colin Millward eventually agreed the game should not be restarted - lot of relief all round. May (or may not) be the end of it.
Whatever - it is a serious blow to Reading Town's title hopes and they'll have to redress the balance with a quick return to form - their next two league games are against strugglers Bicester and Malmesbury - then two awkward away games over Easter at Witney & Wantage.
Their remaining fixtures include two must win games in mid-April Home and Away vs Almondsbury !

Div One East
Holyport 1-0 Newbury

WESSEX One
Fleet Spurs 3-4 Verwood Town

... that's about it! 8)

Yeah, if one of our supposedly rated Academy players can't even get into a half bit team, why are we spending any money on him?

I'm sure Maidenhead were aware of Reading's requirements before they agreed to the loan
