RUMOUR - Francis Coquelin

by RG30 » 02 Jun 2010 17:20

French Ligue 1 club FC Lorient are reported to be in talks with Arsenal over a possible season-long-loan deal for versatile midfielder Francis Coquelin.

The Gunners are currently preparing a second offer for Lorient’s centre back Laurent Koscielny, although the two deals are not believed to be connected.

Coach Christian Gourcuff has already drawn up a short list of potential recruits for next season, and Coquelin is his prime target.

The player said: “The talks have happened, it is true. There have been discussions between the two clubs but for the moment they have not agreed on anything. I will not be against a return in France, but I have to make sure it would be a club where I am certain to get game time”

Coquelin joined Arsenal from Stade Lavallois two summers ago, and despite promising progress, the surprise emergence of Craig Eastmond has limited first team playing time.

Arsène Wenger is still unsure of Coquelin’s best position – right back or midfield – and will make a decision on the player’s immediate future in the summer. Championship sides Sheffield United and Reading have also held tentative interest in Coquelin.

He's a midfielder, so unless someone goes we won't get him, and yes I know Marek and Cisse are probably off.

OP Arsène Wenger is still unsure of Coquelin’s best position – right back or midfield

Maybe of relevance ?

...sigh.....

He's not great at all. I dont know if anyone saw stoke vs Arsenal in the cup but he was playing rignt back and looked worse than cummings. Kept loosing the ball, wayward passes, giving away free kicks and the stoke fans were cheering everytime he had the ball! He then got subbed at half time! He hasn't been particularly good for their ressies either. Not a fan of this kid at all and would be disappointed if we did sign him.

Well, he did looked rather shitty while playing against Arsenal. Still, he's from the Stoke academy, one of the best in the country in developing youngsters. Don't we have an abundance of midfielders at the club? Will only see him coming if Matejovski and Cisse goes. But even if he comes, would Karacan, Tabb or Howard be pushed down the pecking order?

For a start he played FOR Arsenal not against. Secondley he plays RB as well. Finally what a stupid assumption to make. He plays for one of the best academies in the country so he must turn out to be good. We got Julian friggin Kelly from them and he's not exactly setting the world alight here. Not every player who plays for their youths/ressies is going to be good or league standard.

Firstly, typo. Secondly, it was just an assumption. Sheesh.
