Chelseas playing a newly-promoted side first game...that's never happened before.

The champions are pretty much always given a newly promoted team first up.

I see the misery for Liverpool will continue right from the off

Opening weekend - Saturday, 14 August

Aston Villa v West Ham
Blackburn v Everton
Blackpool v Wigan
Bolton v Fulham
Chelsea v West Brom
Liverpool v Arsenal
Man Utd v Newcastle
Sunderland v Birmingham
Tottenham v Man City
Wolverhampton v Stoke

Game of the day has to be Blackpool v Wigan though.

True, the impression always seems to be such but could not be the case.

Even if they deliberately gave the champions a promoted side on the first day that would be because it makes for a good story, rather than giving the big boys an easy ride

Barry the bird boggler I see the misery for Liverpool will continue right from the off

H8ing already? Good effort. Maybe it will actually be a glorious first day back for King Kenny?

Anyone know if there is any 'big 4' meeting each other on the same weekend going on? Seems to happen quite a bit if I remember correctly

I think they've tried to stop that the last couple of seasons.

Wolves v Stoke

Hot sunny August afternoon, Staffordshire derby, two very bitter local rivals, first chance to get bragging rights, all the ingredients for a big old off there...

Arsenal at Anfield, Kenny in charge, what could go wrong for Liverpool?

Weren't Blackpool supposed to be away at the start of the season because their doing some work to the foruth 'stand'? Can't see them being able to get enough deckchairs from the beach during the peak August weeks.

Plucky local former non-leaguers Oxford have a mouth watering opener at Burton Albion for their big time debut. Burton are like a role model for Oxford as to what a well managed former non-league club can achieve really with their first season mid table finish finish last year.

Glory days at Munchkin Farm.

Never mind that - the Championship now has Cardiff, Swansea, Millwall, Leeds, Bristol City. Cancel Police leave for some of those.

I only mention it because I sit here at work less than 30 miles from both stadiums, surrounded by Stokie STH, and I've heard a few tales to make your hair stand on end about what goes on on match-days between the two...
