Speculation - Centre Half

by Hoop Blah » 14 Jul 2010 11:14

Well from McDs comments in the Post it seems we might not be any closer to getting Khizanishvili and so we might have to start looking elsewhere.

I still think we need someone with a bit of experience and pace to play alongside Mills. I don't think we're in a position to be spending much in the way of transfer fee's on them either, so that narrows it down.

I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a loanee, especially as we haven't got any in yet (although it's probably too early for loans).

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of rumour on who we might be looking at? Any ideas anyone, or is it just delaying tactics and we'll end up with Khizanishvili in the end anyway?

I do hope we don't just dither about on it though, if we go into the season with only the 3 we've got I think we're making a big mistake.

I think we'll pursue Khiz for a while still, but if that doesn't work out then we'll look to bring in someone on loan for the season. I guess the loan market will only pick up when the PL teams have sorted out their transfers post-World Cup, so a bit slow in getting going.

Yup and the closer to Sep 1st we get, more loan deals will go through

From the Red Star friendly updates:

Andy Griffin will start the game at centre back once more, having also done so at Farnborough. After that game, the boss said 'Something else has been proven to me - Andy Griffin can play as well at centre back as he can at right back.'

Perhaps we'll not be making a signing at centre-back...?

Next thing you know, we'll be getting a striker from our Academy to fill in at right-back...

If we end up with Griffin at centre half then we'll be in even worse shape than I originally feared.

It's a shame Warnock snapped up Clint Hill on a freebie. I think he'd have been a good signing.

I'm sure we'll get one more centre back in - but we'll probably have to wait until at least 2 from Cummings, Mooney & Davies have moved on before it happens.

What is it about "£4million deficit" that people do not understand?

Well he's no spring chicken, but he's always been a pretty good defender at this level and I think that's what we need. A steady performer to slot in alongside Mills. They don't need to be spectaularly good, just like Ivar, a consistently decent player which from what I've seen of him I think Hill is.

I thought that Nosworthy was supposed to be out of contract and available on a free early in the summer but have since read that he's a potential £1m signing ofr Sheff Utd. That rules him out but I think he'd be the right type too.

Griff played CB against F'boro as well and I didn't think he looked at all the comfortable.

Gunnarsson has filled in there when needed and we don't yet know how good Jack Mills is. I think it's dependent on Ivar's injury. If he's going to be touch and go all season then we definitely need another CB but if he's likely to be fit then we should just about manage

And Mills is bound to get suspended at some point.

Seem to remember 5 years ago only having 2 CBs!!! Dint do us too much harm then.

That said, with serious ??? over Inga's fitness and Pearce's shiteness, we do need a Cb badly, even if that means offloading elsewhere.
