Quota rejects

by pea » 26 Aug 2010 12:52

Seeing as theres unlikely to be any real rumours for the next season we may as well start speculating on good players that may be available to loan once the window has slammed shut and they arn't named in their squads by their teams (or simply need experience on loan).

Three names came to my mind immediately when thinking about this:

- Zurab Khizanishvili (Blackburn): naturally
- Diomansy Kamara (Fulham): never held down a place in the Fulham squad and with Andy Johnson set to return soon and the arrival of Dembele from Belgium he looks unlikely to feature in the near future, did a great job at this level for West Brom and could give us the attacking threat we need.
- Dedryk Boyata (Manchester City): got an array of great defenders ahead of him in the pecking order so is likely to need loan experience for the near future, looked promising and pacey in their defence in his limited appearances, could be the different mould of defender that we need as an extra option.

EDIT:
Done a bit more digging...

Michael Johnson and Shaleum Logan are also at Manchester City and both now 22 so would not be exempt from the quota, both have been highly rated in the past and could surely do a good job at this level.

If Chris Armstrong is deemed to have reached the end of his playing career then a good signing for defensive cover would be Kerrea Gilbert, ex-Arsenal left-back who impressed for Leicester in their promotion season.

Boyata is probably going to Newcastle.

Even if players don't make the 25 man squad club will be looking for them to go out on loan, but they won't be free. Clubs will have to pay a percentage of their wages. Bearing in mind when Zurab was here last season we were only paying 50% of his wages, and we can't even afford that now. Any players coming would be youngsters from who clubs want to go out and get experience.

Unless there is a big sell there is absolutely zero chance of Reading loaning or signing anyone whatsoever this season.

Armstrong retiring would potentially free up space for bringing Gilbert in, although it now looks unnecessary.

But I agree it looks unlikely we will bring anyone in, unless we suffer a long term injury to one of our players and are forced to bring in a replacement.

Boyata looked really good when he was called upon in the UEFA cup last night.

Are you kidding me. Gilbert is being looked at for a place in England's first team by Capello. If he's going anywhere on loan it will be the prem.

Then McDermott should of sold somebody to raise funds. He's the manager, it's his fault the squad is so thin in certain areas.

JM has always said that there is always money available at RFC, so long as for the right players and the manager can show the player is needed. We freed up some wages when we wrote of Rasiak, what a fecking waste of a fee he was.

Which bit of "there is no money" is causing the difficulty for everyone?

Matajovsky, Rasiak and Cisse have already been sold and no money could be afforded to the manager as a result.

Heston does not want to lose our best players but may have to in the next 3 days or so, even if this does happen there is no guarantee that he will see any of the money for squad building.

Even if he did how exactly is he meant to sell them if no-one wants to buy?

So just to repeat in case you all missed it

There is no money
Money there is not
No money is available
Financial options are lacking
We have no containers in which to pass water

True,a good manager should be going in Mads office and telling it like it is,unless we sign players this team is going down. But Mac is turning out to be the "Yes" man we all thought he would be.
