Gylfi is leaving Reading

Reading midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is a shock £4.25million target for German giants Hoffenheim. Sigurdsson is heading for a surprise exit from the Royals after Hoffenheim stepped up their interest over the weekend.

The Iceland international only agreed a new three-year deal with Reading in May after scoring 21 goals in all competitions last season.

But Hoffenheim - the current joint leaders in the Bundesliga - are ready to table a bid on Monday and expect to recruit the midfielder in the next 24 hours.

The 4 names I heard from a club official on Saturday as being 'likely' to leave were:

Siggy
Feds
Jobi
Long

Sadly it looks as if siggy will go.
Fulham seem keen on Feds before they let Schwarzer go to Emirates.
QPR may still want Jobi....

Who wants Long though?

If these 4 do leave I will be pretty gutted as it will leave us struggling badly this season.

Selling `The Sig` for anything less than 5-6 million would be a joke. Still wouldnt want him to leave, but if we get 5-6 million, we have to invest at least 2.5 of it, minimum!!

5 or 6 million would be lovely - but not likely.
Suspect we will get between 3 and 4 million - with very little reinvested.

Surely this couldn't happen, from a business perspective. Our current squad is capable of mid table to play-offs; ship out those 4 and there's a real possibility of league 1. In league 1, the club would have considerably more financial problems than it does now.

We would have to further cut the cloth in League 1. Short termism may be necessary - I have no idea how strapped Mr M is and whether he needs to recoup cash and in a hurry.

Lovely stadium over at Hoffenheim and very similar to ours.

If this happens, this would for me be the straw that breaks camels back! Since relegation from Premiership it's been sad decline one after the other. How on earth do other clubs cope? If transfer completes, for me John Madjeski can pack up and go.... If only if it was easier than that!

Coupled with rumours of Fed going too, these would be shocking times!

Also agreed, if this turns out to be true, I will very quickly become anti-Madejski. We have cut the cloth again, and again, and again over the past two summers. A £4M black hole had to be cut this summer and we sold players, gave them away for free, told players they could leave, and who have we bought in? One left back. On a free.

This club needs to take a serious look at itself if Gylfi leaves this window. Selling him is not a good footballing move, let alone a good business move. Looking forward to playing infront of 8000 every week though I hope next season if we go down because of it.

Agreed with that. Where the hell are the goals going to come from?! You can pretty much guarantee we won't re-invest the money. If Jobi goes as well I fear for where we might end up.

All the wrong noises were coming from BM in that recent interview so can't say I'm surprised.
