Just thought you might like to know that Reading are on a run of FIVE successive defeats in play off games and haven't even scored in their last three attempts, quite possibly the worst run of results of any play off contenders in any division.

Looking back over the history of the play offs for the top level of English football, 39 teams have competed with Palace being the most successful having won promotion on three occasions while Ipswich are the least successful with one win in SEVEN attempts

Barnsley 0/1 attempt - 1/1 final
Birmingham - 1/4 attempts - 1/4 finals
Blackburn - 1/4 attempts - 2/4 finals
Blackpool - 1/1 attempt - 1/1 final
Bolton - 2/4 attempts - 3/4 finals
Bradford - 0/1 attempt
Brighton - 0/1 attempt
Bristol C - 0/1 attempt - 1/1 final
Burnley - 1/1 attempt - 1/1 final
Cambridge - 0/1 attempt
Cardiff - 0/1 attempt - 1/1 final
Charlton - 2/3 attempts - 2/3 finals
Chelsea - 0/1 attempt
Crystal Palace - 3/6 attempts - 4/6 finals
Derby - 1/4 attempts - 2/4 finals
Hull - 1/1 attempt - 1/1 final
Ipswich - 1/7 attempts - 1/7 finals
Leeds - 0/2 attempts - 2/2 finals
Leicester - 2/5 attempts - 4/5 finals
Middlesbrough - 1/2 attempts - 1/2 finals
Millwall - 0/3 attempts
Newcastle - 0/1 attempt
Norwich - 0/1 attempt - 1/1 final
Nottm F - 0/2 attempts
Notts Co - 1/1 attempt - 1/1 final
Oldham - 0/1 attempt
Portsmouth - 0/1 attempt
Preston - 0/4 attempts - 2/4 finals
Reading - 0/3 attempts - 1/3 finals
Sheffield U - 0/4 attempts - 2/4 finals
Southampton - 0/1 attempt
Stoke - 0/1 attempt
Sunderland - 0/3 attempts - 2/3 finals - Promotion awarded after the first failure
Swindon - 2/3 attempts - 2/3 finals - Promotion was withdrawn after the first success
Tranmere - 0/3 attempts
Watford - 2/4 attempts - 2/4 finals
WBA - 0/2 attempts - 1/2 finals
West Ham - 1/2 attempts - 2/2 finals
Wolves - 1/5 attempts - 1/5 finals

Oh and I fear any side that finishes in the top 6 seeing as we haven't won any games against teams in these positions all season.

I don't "fear" Reading coming up against any of them, but wouldn't enjoy a meeting against Leeds at Wembley simply because I couldn't abide them rubbing it in if they defeated us. Losing to any other team would be more palatable.

I'd love to see Reading at new Wembley and would see it as a no lose game really.

A great day out, go up for five years of extra dosh, or stay down and not be surrounded by camera phone wielding mongs for at least one year.

That said I don't see us beating Swansea over two legs. Whatever happens I've enjoyed going this year, we may lose Long in the summer if we stay down but hopefully some of the funds can go into bringing the average age of our defence a bit closer to thirty!

We're not the form team anymore. We're behind Norwich, Cardiff and Millwall.

Just FTR, in 1995 we lost home and away to Tranmere in the league and then beat them in the play-off semi-finals.
We played and beat Bolton at home just 3 weeks before the play-offs, then lost to them in the final.

I'll take Swansea on that score in the semis - they'll be nice and confident, just the way we like teams to be.

Would like to avoid Swansea although their away form is abysmal so that does offer hope...their home form is mighty good though.
Would prefer it to be either Norwich or Cardiff as whoever finishes third is going to be on a real downer.

I don't think it really matters, we're not good enough to beat Swansea or Cardiff. It's taken an amazing run to propell us into the play-offs, but Cardiff and Swansea have been consistently in the top 4 most of the season, so for this reason I'm not holding out much hope of reaching Wembley, let alone the promised land.

Playing first against Swansea at home could really work to our advantage. Roll on coming 5th!

Mr Angry Want? Anybody.

Fear? No-one.

Absolutely.

And if anyone is going to say Swansea did the double on us, so did Tranmere in 1994/5 and we beat them in the play-offs!

EDIT: Ah, I see Dirk's already mentioned that fact!

I'm sure McDermott and the team still feel they owe Cardiff one after two decisions which they' feel went against them in the season. Swansea will be a pretty tough ask given they beat us comfortably in both games.

Not fussed who we end up getting and fear no-one.

Cardiff, should have beaten them twice - Swansea probably should have drawn both. Beaten and drawn with Forest, beat and drew with Millwall, beat Burnley twice, two draws with Leeds.

Our cup form is probably the best of any team and that's what the play-offs are, a separate cup competition. So bring it on and lets see what happens.

We shouldn't fear anybody. Norwich were mightily lucky to get 4 points off us; Cardiff even luckier to get 2. Swansea played us twice at bad times of the season, without Leigertwood in our team. We've got good records against Millwall, Forest and Burnley below, whilst Leeds are rather out of sorts.

If QPR are deducted enough points to put them in the play-offs that's a disaster. Not only are they a cut above, but we'd face them without Leigertwood. Shouldn't happen though; the whole calender messed up with appeals etc., teams not knowing which division they're in. It would all look so bad for the FA/FL. It's a shame that they've had 2 draws; I think most decision makers were hoping they'd be at least 10 points clear so they could make the 10 point deduction (relatively fair) and be done with it. Much harder decision now.
