All is forgiven. Though I spent most of the night in tears I did a lot of thinking, and want you to know that I’m willing to work at this if you are.

brendywendy ....and no one is going to tell be that harps and sidders were creative players.
primarily their role was to break up play, get ball to wingers, sit on edge of oppo box waiting for the ball.

I'll tell you they were creative, certainly Harper that is, and much less so Sidwell.

Harper could dictate our pace of play and could change the way we attacked by switching play quickly and accurately (those sideways passes he used to get criticised for that Karacan can't make as consistently and Legiertwood now gets praised for when he does it). He could also ping a long accurate ball over the back four better than anyone else we've had since.

I specifically remember Murty saying on the radio one morning that Harper was the top scorer in the clubs internal stats for 'key passes', ie ones that set up an attack (not just the last person to touch the ball and claim an assist when we scored).

Little was the real creative flair player and did the final bit of work setting up far more of our goals but Harper also played a bit part in being creative, even if that wasn't just doing something on the edge of the opposition box.

Been saying that shizzle for years.

Harps was almost perfect as the man to pick up the ball from the defence in Rodgers system, and he didn't use him. Harps to hassle opposition and build attacks, Karacan to hassle, tackle and get up the pitch and Gylfi to bang them in.

Pompey have signed Norris
Saints have signed Jack Cork

The list of Howards suitors is growing smaller, he wants to leave but looking less and less likely at the moment

Apparently Howard has come back to pre season as a machine. Outlasted the whole squad in the fitness test, and was told to stop! Love to see him do well this season.

Or does that just mean the rest of them have come back really unfit after over-indulging to get over the disappointment of the play-off final!

Players very rarely come back unfit for pre-season these days. Good on him for trying to prove his worth. If he takes that onto the pitch then we can only benefit. Hunt wasn't the best player we've had but his work ethic took him to the Premier League and he's doing alright for himself for it.

a decent player, but doesnt show it often enough so far.
would be good to have a fit and firing howard, thenwe could split AM duties between him and taylor this season.

He is probably being lined up as emergency cover at centre back. Fitness will help in that position.

I like Howard. It would be hard and harsh to drop Karacan given how well he's done. But I'd love to see how a Howard & Legs partnership got on, with say Hunt / Manset & Church upfront (assuming Long goes).

If he can work on his scoring (there were times last season when he was well positioned to score but was ignored) then we could always try him in the attacking midfielder role away from home or against teams that pack midfield. If Church can get himself sorted then Hunt would make the ideal impact sub to come on with 30 to go and switch us to 4-4-2.
