Royal Prince Came on here to find out how we got on and I'm not sure now whether we played the better football but got unlucky, or if we're doomed and heading for League One!

We were unlucky, but equally massive mistakes cost us. The defensive woes and lack of being able to score from created opportunities is very, very worrying. You can dominate a game all you want but if you defend badly and don't score enough goals, you lose, that is what people are taking issue with. Its no good being camped in the opposing half if they are going to slice you open like a cake the only time they venture into your half.

To paraphrase McDermott: We didn't show up first half, played really well second half but couldn't put it away to save our lives and conceeded two very sloppy goals.

Royal Lady Pompey have no money - but they managed to re-sign Benjani and still pay Kitson's wages etc. How do they do it?

By being crooks. I can't believe you're using Pompey as an example. They were hours away from ceasing to exist last season.

yes, but they,re still in the league, still beating us and still signing players!

Bryn gave the ball away needlessly in midfield.

Kebe reminds me of a poor man's Theo Walcott, all the pace in the world but no brains or technique - I lost count of the times he got past his man with ease only to put in an atrocious final ball.

Oh well then, lets run up massive debts and run the risk of losing the court case then.

we sacked Rodgers because Madejski didn't want to invest in him and took the cheap route with McDermott, we didn't go up last year because we failed to reinvest and we'll finish midtable this year if we don't reinvest. Stop mocking the fans Madejski and actually use some of the transfer funds you're raking in (not to mention the savings in wages as half our squad our now academy players and all our big earners are gone or f*ck off.

Firstly, how was getting rid of Rodgers the cheap option?! That was an expensive decision, but one that shows the club aren't afraid to make big calls when needed.

Secondly, I agree that we need to re-invest, we particularly need to strengthen in a couple of key areas, but it must be said that we don't necessarily need to spend big. Money does not always equal success.

Thirdly, back to the thread itself, I can't believe how people's opinions of yesterday's game can be so different! Yesterday is the first home game I've missed in donkeys years as I was on a flight, and I also missed the highlights on TV as I subsequently passed out on the couch when I made it home! Came on here to find out how we got on and I'm not sure now whether we played the better football but got unlucky, or if we're doomed and heading for League One!

It was cheap because looking at Rodgers' comments since he left, he felt he wasn't backed financially so obviously wasn't given the money he was asking for to sign players. We offloaded him plus three coaches and then replaced them from within with a manager happy to promote youth players from within and sell our main assets.

I've never said we need to spend big, we just need to spend a decent portion of what we're bringing in. We've brought in circa £40 million since we got relegated and slashed even more in wages yet we've spent no more than £5 million on transfer fees in that whole period.

With regards to the football, it was dire but we won't go down - some people are overreacting. But playing this limited long ball rubbish while selling our best assets and not replacing them will result in a slow decline. Like I said, Long got us out of jail last season several times, but this year will be different.

 He spent about double what Coppell did in our first Premier League season. Something like £4m. And he wanted more financial backing? No wonder he got oxf*rd sacked, he was taking us down and wanted to do it by spending more than Leicester.

Put in 1/2 dangerous crosses a natural goalscorer would have been on the end of. If you wanna count hitting the bar too, albeit jammy. Kebe was dangerous, anyone saying otherwise wasn't at the game.

I can honestly say I have no idea how we managed to lose yesterday. We must've had at least 70% of the possession and has been said were camped on the edge of their penalty area for long periods of the game but the penalties and Harte's freekick aside I can't really remember their keeper making that many saves.

I was worried Harte would miss when I saw him and Noel arguing over who was taking it. That said both were well struck but were at a nice height - they still needed saving though and you have to credit Luke Steele for them and the save from Harte's freekick which was right in the top corner.

If we'd managed to get an early goal I'm sure we would've won but as the game went on it had more and more of the air of a pre-season game where the forwards weren't exactly sure where everyone else was meant to be and so it became very laboured and deliberate.

I don't understand the comment earlier in thread about Manset not having enough time to make a difference while Church (who came on with 5 minutes left and about 10 minutes after Manset) apparently was ineffective.

People have a right to be hacked off with the lack of investment in the club..

If they had invested when in the Premiership chances are they would still be in the premiership.

I applaud those people, we finally managed to have the balls to show Madejski how we really feel. As for those people who condemn booing, I dunno what planet they are living on. Paying money to watch that rubbish and seeing no reinvestment is a reason to boo and a lot of it no doubt is directed to the board and Madejski, not the players on the pitch.

Regarding the Rodgers argument, it's all ifs buts and maybes. If no doubt he's a decent manager but we were 23rd and sometimes you have to look at the short-term just to stay in the division! I do think Brian is the right man but currently with the wrong tools. However his faith in certain players is a slight concern and comments such as there's no players out there who could improve our squad and we won't get another Long- there's plenty of lower league strikers banging the goals in that are gonna be a better option than an average striker (Hunt) and a very decent winger (Robson-Kanu) playing up front

I totally agree, also couple with fact that it is a football game where everyone is entitled to voice their opinion, I personally just find this but moreso the booing as ludicrous considering it was only our second home game of the season albeit against a poor barnsley team but what do fans really expect 4 games in?

Furthermore, it is not as if Mcderm has not publically declared prior to the game that they are trying to secure a couple of targets

If people just blindly accept that we sell our best players, get however many millions for them, money from an FA Cup run and a PO final and yet have nothing available to re-invest, then the club will keep saying it. If we let the club know how we feel, maybe they will do something about it. Madejski says the figures for Mills and Long are nothing like those reported - he didn't say that about Gylfi though. And we MUST have got more for Mills than the £2 million we were willing to pay for him - we're saving on their wages also - so to say that we have no spare money is either a) being slightly economical with the real truth or b) blows out of the water the fact that we are so well run.
