Opening of the transfer window may not be the worst time to be stuffed.

lol..this is reading we are talking about. No one coming in.

Cardiff were in a worse financial state than us over the summer...yet they managed to reinvest more.

Not a well played game by us and even a worse result. It seems we could not cope with Cardiff's 5 man midfield which ran all over us. A couple of the goals weren't without controversy...the first there appears to have been a handball in the build up and the second there were claims that Feds was fouled. But we were soundly beaten. It is all already in the past...hopefully we will learn something from this can get back in form starting with Stevenage this Saturday.

Table looks very interesting now... I'm not too gutted by the defeat.

RoyalBlue Three points thrown away in the first half. Today and the Ipswich performance have really not been good enough for a team that wants to get promoted.

Come on not one team in the league has stayed undefeated over the feative period have they? Its not like we lost to a crap team. They've only lost 1 in 13 at home or something silly like that.

Have to say the league table looks brilliant. Most open title race I can remember. Great for the neutral.

But who would put money on us investing as much, let alone more, than we receive from outgoings and/or actually strengthening rather than weakening our squad overall? Lose to Stevenage and there will be another black hole to be filled.

I feel a case of deja vu coming on. Get through to the final at Wembley and then Cardiff do a Swansea on us!

Verdict from my son who was at the game:

"Second half was a tiny bit better but still awful. Didn't create anything. Similar to Ipswich but worse. Even though we have 2 defensive midfielders, neither of them were closing Cardiff down, just letting them walk straight through. No passing, just hoof.'

RoyalBlue's son ."No passing, just hoof.'

^ FAO BrendyWendy, who insists we've been trying to play decent passing football recently :|

Compo was at the game and described it as a defensive shambles. Ah well, we are not remotely good enough to win every week and anything other than a relegation battle is a success when you sell your best players every summer. We'll be in the top 6 mix until late Spring no doubt, which is an excellent effort given the circumstances.

Well let's hope that was just a blip - a truly pathetic display that is up there with the infamous Wimbledon Boxing Day game.

We were lucky that Cardiff were so average or we would have taken a real pounding. None of the players emerged with any credit, but the following were particularly culpable:

Kebe - not interested in the slightest. I'm normally one to defend Jimmy but today's lack of effort was unforgivable. Clearly not happy, gave McD the "talk to the hand" after one particularly pointless run out of play.

Harte - cannot seem to grasp the concept that a cross needs to beat the first defender. Unless of course he is the first defender in which case he just waves the ball on it's way.

Gorks - must have been ill or carrying an injury, easily his worst performance in a Reading shirt. Couldn't tackle, mark, clear or pass. The game just went on around him - he looked like he'd been drinking.

Loads of Reading fans paid on the day, none of the Reading team played on the day.

You're in an unusually positive frame of mind.
