id prefer to look at it that McD has worked wonders with no money- imagine what he could achieve with some.

but youre right to be cautious and ask questions

My worry is more based on the lack of success in bringing in attacking players to be honest (through lack of funds if giving him the benefit of doubt). I'm certainly not calling for his head, just a nagging doubt that he might be at threat in the long run and I generally like what he's done (apart from the dull style of football that is!).

Probably less, when he doesn't have to absolutely ensure he's getting a good deal

The only one I can think of who did well after he had a good budget to spend would be Harry...

I agree with you Hoop. I think McD is a top bloke and he deserves far more recognition than he has previously, for making silk purses out of sow's ears tbh. I'm concerned that with a bit of money and a few better players - he'll lose his magic touch in developing players and things *might* go awry for him - but I'm keeping everything crossed for him, as I want him to reap the benefits and kudos of more money and a PL place.

That was possibly the biggest cliche* we managed to come up with at the game on Satters, that having money means it's a completely different job for Brian. Although we were pretty much agreed that Nick's guiding hand would mean he'll cope

*there were a fair few i tell you

But it probably has to change, that's possibly the point I'm making.

We haven't purchased a single attacking player who's come into the side and improved it since he took over. If we're to meet the kind of ambitions the TSI guys are hinting at then we'll need to do that and also improve the way we've played.

Dirks always made the point, which I totally agree with, that part of McDermotts success is probably how well he knew our players and how much they respected and trusted him because of their existing relationships with him. How is he going to be able to adapt to the new demands?

Hopefully well as I'd much prefer us to keep the current structure in place and find success (and a more entertaining brand of football) with them in charge rather than a new manager TSI bring in.

Yep, watch this space for power acquisitions of Greg Halford and Emerse Fae for the thick end of 4.5million.

if we had kept sigurdsson and long wed already be more succesful, possibly at a higher level, and be playinga more exciting brand of football.

agree weve not brought in a decent attacking player since he took over, but they are just more expensive, and therefore were totally off the menu for him.

cant really tell i guess
i have limitless suppplies of faith in the guy though

Pretty big IF though.

I'm not sure how long we'd be able to keep these successful players despite the new money. I'm pretty sure you're right that we'd have been able to keep Sigurdsson for at least the rest of the season and that with him and Long in tandem we may well have gone up (although Long wasn't getting quite the same results with Sigurdsson in the side as once we changed our style to make the most of Long's own talents - not to say he wouldn't still have come good of course).

Hmmm. Nicky's greatest talents certainly seem to be in the selling side of things, which may not be so much in demand anymore.

big is a relative term
i believe my statemenmt to be correct, and wed certainly have had more umph to be able to hold on to either player for at least 1 more season if brian wasnt desperate for cahs for blackhole plugging.
