Snowball This was a thread doing nobody any harm until you decided to come in and oxf*rd it up with your inane.

276/0 = 9999 That's incorrect. Comment

I didn't post that though, did I? Looks like your reading skills are right down there with your mathematical ones..

Then when I say "Typing infinity is difficult" you EXULT. Woopdeedooh Snowball has
made a mistake. LIKE A VIEW ON INFINITY ACTUALLY MATTERS

Nope, you made yet another basic mathematical error which I corrected. You then launched into abuse because you can't cope with getting things wrong. No abuse from me, despite your victim mentality.

Well your other variable is goals and you're happy to use that when the totals involved have scored so few

Once again, HNA revealing poor logic. It's MINUTES per goal and the minutes for Hunt, Church, le Fondre ARE significant. If one of these had got a dozen goals we'd not be arguing about it.

Again you miss the point - I know it's minutes per goal. That's a product of a) minutes and b) goals. You won't use a) for Roberts because his minutes are too low yet you're happy to extrapolate from b) even when that is so low for most of our players.

To be clear, I don't think Roberts' stats are particularly meaningful given he's only played one match. But similarly I wouldn't read too much into the others based on three goals either - they could shin one in tomorrow and improve their gpm by a third (or whatever)

But you ARE a dickhead

Right, reported to the site owner. I've had enough of your unprovoked abuse. Hopefully he'll bar you from here soon.

Basically... LOL @ Snowbers.

I have just tried to comprehend some of the crap he's posted. It's all bonkers.

Fukk off back to your caravan with David Icke...

You haven't tried hard enough BF,

It's very easy really.

If Roberts had played every game we would already be promoted with a goal difference of +118.

Feds should be playing right wing due to his level of half assists.

And Church is the best striker at the club........

Run this half assist thing by me again... Touched the ball within 10 minutes of us scoring?

rfc2001 Christ this thread makes church look like our best striker. ]/quote]

No it doesn't. It ONLY says he gets the most goals per minute played

I've made it utterly clear (in this thread, and in the "Attacking Stats" thread)
that Alf blows him out of the water, Kebe beats him and Hunt beats him,
all those players because they also have a bag-full of assists

Stats are pointless when you can see who contributes more and who does not.
Church can have all the best stats in the world but at the end of the day
he ain't our best striker and he ain't good enough.

But you CAN see who contributes. By looking at

(a) Goals Scored
(b) Assists
(c) Penalties won, whether or not they are scored
(d) Free kicks won in dangerous places
(e) Tackles won
(f) Passes made and successful passes made
(g) Red and Yellow cards for opposition players won
(h) Battering of defenders, Wearing down of defenders

You can also look at points won when playing
and compare that to other strikers

Which stat indicates 'battering of defenders?'

I have looked at most you have said and it probably makes perfect sense to you when you write it but must lose a hell of a lot in translation.

PLEASE NOTE, Nothing in the above line says "statistics". We have some stats,
there are many more stats under OPTA, but we don't have access to them.

(a) Goals Scored.

(We have stats for these)

(b) Assists

(We have stats for these)

(c) Penalties won, whether or not they are scored

(We have stats for these)

(d) Free kicks won in dangerous places

There are no formal stats for these but they can easily be collected
Last season Long was winning fouls every match. It's a part of his "credits"

(e) Tackles won (OPTA)

(f) Passes made and successful passes made (OPTA)

(g) Red and Yellow cards for opposition players won

Don't know if there are formal stats for these but they can be collated fairly easily

(h) Battering of defenders, Wearing down of defenders

This was the one you latched on to. I don't know if there is an OPTA stat,
but it's a relatively easy stat to collect.

What amuses me about all these protests is that people don't think through what they are saying and actually implying.

If I say, "Church is a terrible shot." Presumably I mean his conversion rate for shots becoming goals is low.
I mean "I have seen him shooting wide, shooting high, getting blocked, giving the keeper easy saves, hitting the woodwork..." etc

That IS statistics. You see X shots, Y misses Z goals and from a statistical analysis you don't know you're making
you come to a conclusion about Church's shooting ability. The difference with using ACTUAL stats is it avoids
the human error of exaggerating what you want to see. So, if you dislike Church you remember all his misses
and downgrade his goals. If you're a fan you do the opposite. Actual stats keep you honest

Shouldn't you be using your energy trying to write a novel someone might actually buy, rather than boring a bunch of interwebz geeks...

I wrote 67,500 words last month, story-wise, Finger
and three essays for Uni. Maybe you just don't have
my energy levels.
