Erm, what happened to the game plan of doubling up the strikers on Pirlo and defending from just inside our half?

Leaving Young on is proving to be Hodgson's createst gamble to date.

Awful game this. England are camped in their own half bar the odd free kick and the Italians best finisher is on the bench.

"Rooney in not doing defensive work shocker"

Also, RE: YOUNG
Might be an issue of preparing for a penalty shootout?

Harsh considering he was sitting deeper protecting the defence, and given the excellent marking throughout the game.

That should have been a penalty.

Ideal Barzagli should have been off there, two straight feet and the one foot is almost knee high!

LOL Perfect tackle that shouldn't have been a foul, let alone a red.

Yes, but if they gave that, they'd give 6 or 7 penalties a game.

Suicidally dropping deeper and deeper as we tire, giving Pirlo more time and space and Italy all sorts of room to get it down and run at us. It's been a good effort, but it's only a matter of time unless we can freshen up those legs.

Can't understand why the Italians didn't put Di Natale on. One of the best strike rates in Europe over the last few years and they leave him on the bench while the players on the pitch miss chance after chance.

Glad we agree we should have had a penalty.

Btw, when he Italian feigned injury, did it hit his shoulder in the box [rather than his face]?

We really need this rest, brief as it is. What to do with that last sub? Ox on for Young for his pace and trickery? Henderson for fresh legs in midfield for Gerrard who's suffering? Defoe on for Rooney?

But with one eye on penalties, you'd probably want most of those players on the pitch come the end.

The Man Utd contingent have been spectacularly uninspiring again.

Now, presumably that's because one is tired after a long season and the other is short of match fitness after a 4 week break.
