Sheffield Star says

By Neil Goulding Barnsley
Published on Friday 4 May 2012 08:07

BARNSLEY have had NO official bids for star player Jacob Butterfield.

Championship champions Reading and Premier League high-fliers Newcastle United are both rumoured to be keen to secure Butterfield’s signature now he is a free agent.

But Reds director Don Rowing told The Star: “We’ve had no offers for Jacob, it’s just rumours. We’ve offered Jacob a new deal and we hope he signs it, but it’s down to the player what he wants to do.

“If Reading and Newcastle are interested in signing him then they should give the club a call.”

If Butterfield opts not to accept a new two-year deal, the Reds will more than likely be entitled to some sort of compensation fee because he is under 24 and any potential deal would go to a tribunal.

“If Jacob leaves then we could get some fee, but we’ll have to deal with that possibility if it happens,” added Rowing.

Focher Floyd's Mrs is a Barnsley season ticket holder, and she says he's a pile of steaming horse shit and doesnt know what the fuss is about.

Maybe Floyd is a pile of SHS and his missus is the only one entitled to say that - what has being a Barnsley ST holder got to do with it tho'...

Really hope he joins. Would be an awesome signing on a free. Ball playing midfielder is exactly what we need, especially if we use 4-2-3-1 next season

Sky Sports understands Barnsley midfielder Jacob Butterfield is considering making a U-turn and signing a new deal with the club, snubbing North East duo Newcastle United and Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old missed most of last season with a serious knee injury, but he is now nearing full fitness and is considering his options.

Butterfield, who was called into the England Under 21 squad last season, is out of contract at Oakwell and had looked set to depart the Championship club.

Newcastle were leading the chase to land him and North East rivals Middlesbrough were also keen, but now the player is considering staying put.

I'd rather get Butterfield than Koren purely because of his age.

if we somehow get butterfield i will be VERY VERY pleased with the business we have done so far. i will no longer be worrying about our midfield as well, as we have long since needed a creative midfielder that butterfield supplies. our next step would be to sign rhodes which i hear we are close to, and sign a new cb, rb, and lb. i think this will be our most successful summer ever, even without us signing gylfi!

And if we're still in for Koren, i'd be pretty happy with our midfield.
