sandman Well if Gareth Southgate said it then it must be true.

Great goal from the Ukrainian player. It's typical of the "Alan Hansen mentality" that is prevalent in the football coverage in this country that good work from the attacker should be overlooked because of a supposed "defensive mistake". You can find a defensive mistake in every goal if you look closely enough or indeed if you have an agenda against a certain player.

Exactly and if there weren't any every game would be 0-0. always makes me chuckle when a manager is interviewed, goal scored for his team 'we scored a great goal' goal against 'we gave them a goal' :)

No-one's saying it but I will.

Lampard and Gerrard were by some distance England's best players last night and on Friday. I fear this may be the end of HNA? as we know it.

Agreed although I liked Ox and Cleverly vs Moldova, and Baines before he went off last night.

But yes, in general, it's worked very well.

Poor referee, too card happy and conned at every turn. Defoe's goal should have stood but then I suppose the events of last night level out after the Ukraine non-goal at the Euros.

Performance was the usual substandard nonsense from England and Cleverley was woeful but then when you play an inexperienced young kid out of position at the highest level I'm not surprised. Oh and Milner - just why???

Gerrard (as per usual recently) and Lampard were the best players.

I'd rather see a bunch of youngsters playing crap for England than experienced players who we already know are crap.

At least there's a possibility the youngsters will improve.

Not great by any SOTI, but compared with other recent performances that wasn't too bad last night.

We had our chances but didn't take them, Cleverly in particular just seems to panic and fluff every chance. Agreed about the ref, seemed very card happy and too willing to allow timewasting and play acting from Ukraine.

Also quite appalled at the number of Ukraine fans in the home end, there were 20-30 near us not only cheering their goal but sitting there with scarves, flags, shirts and jesters hats. WTF do the tangos allow this, but a drinks bottle top is banned.

We did. From an attacking point of view we were awful before that (I'll big up Wellbeck also).....

I don't see any problem with sitting near opposing fans if they are well behaved and there is nothing in your post to suggest they were anything other than well behaved.

Lampard and Milner just don't do enough.

LOL what a crap statement (as usual)........watching Milner in the flesh tonight, its amazing how much hard work he puts in - he was everywhere. And Credit to Lampard his link up play between defence and midfield was top notch

I'm guessing you're one of these clueless fans who think if a player isn't touching the ball every 2mins and shooting from every angle, then they have had a crap game

Your first line is totally out of keeping with what others have posted.
Take a look at yourself and your "guessing" isn't very good.
You are now a close 3rd behind NFA and Ideal as the most cretinous and unnecessarily rude of posters on here.
You will hopefully grow up one day but we shouldn't hold our breath.

We say what we see and Milner for all his running really doesn't offer much and his passing is nowhere near incisive enough at international level and it seems as though Mancini feels the same as Milner hardly ever starts for Man City.
Lampard is just getting old and his renowned runs into the box are now few and far between and he just doesn't get involved in other areas of the pitch.

It sounds as though you have never seen Milner play before "in the flesh"-when you have seen him a few more times "in the flesh" do come back on here and give us your further thoughts.
Oh and it would be a good idea if you tempered your language.

I'm concerned that Gerrard may be on his way out. His style won't see him last another 2 seasons esp with
the back problems he has

Interesting to note

Lampard 93 appearances 26 goals
Gerrard 97 appearances 19 goals
