Hold my hands up to say he had a good game yesterday. I still have a few niggling doubts about the long term but the energy and enthusiasm he showed today was first class and you can't argue with two assists. Well played Jobi now keep it up ;)

I think that the turn round inn Jobi's performance is all to do with his confidence in having Shorey behind him. As some have noted in the past when Harte plays then Jobi has to track back much more which makes him less effective going forwards.

Much as I like Ian Harte and we really miss his fantastic dead ball delivery, it is hard to see how he can still cut it at this level in terms of general play. I said much the same at the start of last season and to be fair Harte improved much more than I expected as the season went on. I hope he does the same again and proves me wrong but in truth I doubt it this time. The PL is a hard division and his lack of pace will cost us.

I thought Jobi looked excellent yesterday; really inspirational and perfect for this season. That All Saints polo shirt in oxblood red that he wore on Football Focus was bang on trend.

He certainly got more support from Shorey going forwards. With Harte he tends to get left to his own devices a bit because Harte can't go far beyond the half way line without leaving us glaringly exposed for the break. Shorey gave him options and when a defender has to try and be ready to counter multiple choices teh winger has, the more likely they are to make a mistake or leave a little more room for the winger to exploit.

Shorey did OK yesterday, nothing more nothing less. Make no mistake, we still have a problem at LB. A Joe Mills type player is whats required, but one with more of a brain and a basic command of footballing ability.

What did for Harte was not so much his lack of pace, its been an issue for years, it was the fact that his positioning that he took up to compensate was wrong and left us exposed. His ability to read a game has never been in doubt, but his own lack of confidence in his pace and how he attempted to address it has caught him out. Its a shame, but I can't see how he'll come back from this.

Jobi didn't help out Harte much at all at the start of this season. It wasn't so much he had to track back and help out, he couldnt be arsed tracking back. Yesterday his attitude, and hence ability, was a marked improvement. I bet he's had a rocket from BM.

Lets just hope yesterday wasn't a 1 off.

Z175
CJC Before the start of this season i was ridiculed on this site for suggesting Macanff wouldn't be good enough at this level and at some point Brian would have to drop him. He will play on sat but i think i'll be proved right in the long term.

Ridicule

I'm sure McDermott has the same doubts. The fact we're openly linked with the Russian left winger shows that McDermott is thinking longer term too. For now, he's better than Robson-Kanu and the lack of Harte should free him up to play his natural game.

Although I reckon it's loan to a view to permanent, a season (or even 6 months) playing week-in-week-out at the Championship level may allow him to learn what he needs to get well on the way. He was settling well into the side when he was dropped last year and by all accounts has been great at Burnley so far.

he was cosntantly tracking back, and spent most of the games in his own half

i cant help it if youve suddenly developed eye aids, and cant tell what it is that you are seeing young man.

Really wish he got his goal yesterday. Obviously for the win, but for his performance also. Would have been a peach.

Not true. I only hate opinionated armchair enhusiasts who jump on any bandwagon that happens to be passing at the time. Cue your ill founded bromance with Joe Mills last year, and look how that one turned out. Oh yeah....

Ian Harte has served a purpose for the last few years. His pro's have far outweighed his cons, but narrowminded know-alls such as yourself look at his lack of speed, cling on to that attribute, and use it as basis for everything that goes wrong in a game.

And I have also implied earlier in this thread that his time appears to have passed. So that also shoots your smart-arse comment to shit.

Ooo get you. Writing off Harte a bit quick. He's started the last couple of seasons shit and ended up playing a stormer for most of it.

Oh and Ian, a very disappointing riposte. Sorry to strike a nerve.
