Went today, decent game, only knew 2 of the Arsenal players, Eisefield & the keeper who let in 5 in THAT game Martinez.

Thought Ryan Edwards looked really good, plays like Karacan. Nick Arnold, Niall Keown & Pierce Sweeney impressed in defence.
Jordan Obita & Dominic Samuel didn't impress me overly tbh, thought Samuel tried to run through too many players, Obita had the pace but couldn't get many decent crosses in.

No. 7 for us looks good aswell (can't remember his name).

Decent run out overall.

So following in the general footsteps of recent Reading wingers then.

Thought we were awful personally and were lucky to get the draw. Neither Obita or Samuel were given the ball enough to make a big impact imo but Obita put in a brilliant cross for the first. Samuel was unlucky when he was put through but that was the only time we really got him into a decent position. We must have put Arsenal through 1 on 1 at least 3 times through bad back passes. Tshibola looks to have something and he likes a cross field pass but he was far too slow in possession. Sweeney was the pick of the defenders.

Matty Partridge is a quality player. Hopefully he'll make the step up. Certainly a Championship player in the making. Next 18 months will be important for this fella.

I thought we played quite well yesterday.

Defence looked good, although Griffin got caught out a few times against a very good Arsenal right back who got forward well. Our centre backs (Keown and Sweeney) did well to largely thwart the Arsenal attack.

In midfield, Fosu was largely ineffective, but Tshibola and Edwards both looked like they will have a good future. Edwards reminded me a lot of Jem and had a great engine. Obita was dissapointing - I fear that he might have an attitude problem - although his cross for the first goal was excellent.

Tanner worked hard in the 'number 10' role. Unfortunately Samuel wasn't in the game enough - got the ball caught under his feet when through on the keeper and was unlucky with a header.

On another note, it was great to see Anton make an appearance - I'm not sure that many foreign owners would turn up to an u21 match.

Whenever I've seen him he always looks like he's got all the technique and skills to be a very good midfielder but, like you, I think he just takes too long to do anything. It's almost like he wants to make himself look good with a deft touch or turn or drop of the shoulder before doing anything for the team.

Some great players make it look like they're playing the game at their own pace, but something about him makes me think he's too interested in how he looks as opposed to how the team does. Hopefully I'm wrong on that front though.

I'd give Fosu some credit, tried a lot but it didn't really come off and did get a goal. He's younger than the rest of that team and I believe was just promoted from the under 18's and that may have been his first game at that age level.

Fair enough, hadn't appreciated that.

I also agree with earlier comments re Tshibola taking too much time in possession. Has the ability to be a good player though.

Liam Kelly, also promoted from u18s team I believe.

Scored a hat trick against the Arsenal u18s the same weekend http://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/article ... 22642.aspx

Whilst he is a quality player, the OS says he didn't play.
