I recall McDermott saying Zingarvich asked him who he particularly wanted and that he'd answered "Well, Pogrebnyak, but he's out of our price range" Only for Zingaravich to reply something along the lines of "Screw that, I'll sort it" And McDermott being amazed that he managed it.

Yep, Brian said that at the fans forum. AZ also had a list of players he fancied but Brian and Hammond told him that wasn't on. Brian knows best, allegedly.

I wonder what AZ's thoughts are on Danny Guthrie or Pog not playing.

I think i'd be a bit pissed off if i'd invested heavily in a shiny new train for my sons train set and he never played with it.

If you watched your son playing with it, and noticed that the shiny new model couldn't stay on the rails, perhaps you'd consider taking it back to the toy shop, eh?

And if he knew his son very well, as he should, he would know that the train wouldn't be right for him anyway.

I saw a Floyd rant earlier saying that's it's not likely Reading will splash the cash in January.....so like the way Reading play, don't expect too much movement.

Maybe Shay Given now Mccarthy is now out for the season. Don't exactly want us relying on Federici all season and being stuck with him if he is not performing. I reckon Given would use his experience to help toughen up the defence.

So what you're saying is basically we have bottled it when it comes to making a big decision that affects our PL status again? Don't know why we even bothered giving Anton the club if he is just going to spend as SJM did.

Last time:

Fae (3 odd millon)
Rosenior (swap)
Marek (probably 2 million or short of 3)
Kebe (probably between half and 1 million)

This time

Pog (free)
Guthrie (free)
Gunter (2.5)
Shorey (free)
Mariappa (2.5-3)

Probably not a lot in it and tbh it wouldn't surprise me if we sign players from the Russian division 2 or something like that.

Fae was bought in the August before the 2nd season whilst Marek and kebe were bought in the January of the 2nd season so it's a pretty bollocks comparison to be honest.

Not really it does roughly add up to the same numbers we have brought in over a season with a slight difference in wages/fees. Anyway do not understand why we just didn't buy players suited to our traditional 4-4-2 we don't seem to get the ball down the wings enough as we did when we had the likes of Seol, Convey, Hunt, Little and even Oster.

If only we had wingers who actually went to the by line to cross a ball rather than crossing from a position 10 yards deeper. Only really works if you're Beckham in my eyes crossing from there.

No you're making a comparison over what Jm spent with what TSI has spent but using figures over a different period of time. Compare what TSI have paid in this window with what JM spent in August 06 if you want to make a direct comparison but that wouldn't support your view would it.

Or if we're going to use your time periods then the only conclusion we can draw is that TSI have invested as much/if not more in one Premiership window than JM did in 3. Which certainly doesn't support the original point that Anton is spending the way JM did either

Tom Carroll from Spurs on loan would be nice.

Even so ......... our transfer dealings in the summer were poor we have 2 perfectly good players who we believe cannot adjust to our system. One of these players isn't even being played in his usual centre mid spot and is being used elsewhere or should I say was and finally we had opportunities to bring in a couple of players who were proven at this level. (Danny Simpson being one of them).

The main investment needed if there is going to be any will be another centre mid or two. Our back up is shocking at the minute.

Marko Marin in the old Gylfi role would be really good - would have thought that there would be no chance though!

Maybe if we get him in on loan similar to Lukaku at West Brom if his situation doesn't change between now and then. Its a win win situation for both parties Marin gets PL experience for next season to adapt and we get an awesome attacking player who could make a huge difference to us. But yes somehow think this won't happen.

forgot mcleary from one list, and have used two transfer windows in another & not included wages in either
and comparing 1 1st season in the prem, with 1 second season in the prem.

the true comparison is:

last time:
seol ky hyun - 1M+ wages

this time:
Pog (free)+Big wages+signing on fee
Guthrie (free)+wages
Gunter (2.5)+wages
Shorey (free)+wages
Mariappa (2.5-3)+wages
Mcleary(free) +wages
