I don't think you can include players with significant injuries.

I also think some players just aren't natural athletes so they're blinding in their youth when they are flexible and fit and injury-resistant but just fade away as they get older. Robbie Fowler is a good example.

Giles Barnes, Paul Lake, etc all had serious injury problems.

Juan Antonio Reyes is a shout - I don't even know who he plays for these days. Ariel Ortega also stands out from my youth as he was suppposed to be the next Maradona. Fack knows where he ended up.

I think Ortega is back in Argentina at River Plate. Think its something like his 5th time there. No idea what happened to Reyes. thought he was decent at Arsenal. Didnt he complain about being homesick ? You're right about Fowler Mags. Best natural finisher ive seen on a regular basis. Rush scored more for us but when it came to pure instinctive finishing Fowler in his teens and early 20s was magical. Injuries ruined him.

My knowledge of world wide football isnt as good as i thought or you're on a wind up Kes. Ive never heard of Porfirio. Dani has had a decent if not earth shattering career.

Royal Rother The oft discussed James Lambert is the only ex RFC player I can think of who qualifies, albeit in a less significant way than most of the aforementioned.

George Best played for Reading, once, and tops all the names mentioned so far.

Just wikied about him - he was a football league Championship winner, European Cup winner and European Football of the year by the age of 22, left Manchester United at 26.

Porfirio played for West Ham. Just Google him, plenty of info. 'One of the most skilful players the wear the claret and blue'. Decided not to stay at West Ham, signed for Benfica instead then it was all downhill.

My West Ham supporting m8 used to absolutely love Porifio when he was there.

Another couple:

David Bentley - touted as being the next Beckham and probably believed the hype himself. Still Tottenham's record signing I believe but now on loan at FC Rostov in Russia.

Stephen Ireland - Named Man City's POTS in 08/09. Went a bit mental and pulled out of an Ireland squad, claiming his grandmother had died, when in fact his gf apparently had a miscarriage. Now playing sporadically in a shit Villa side.

Still only 31.

Was so good he was almost an automatic signing on some of the early incarnations of Championship Manager.

He's not had a bad career - a goal every three games at Barca, Benfica and now Malaga.

Good shout.

Hugo Viana too signed for Newcastle for about 8 million in 2003. Who was the young Portuguese striker Spurs signed who was a flop also??

Afonso Alves. More than a goal a game in Dutch football, £12M transfer to Boro, was shocking, went to the Middle East for early retirement at 28 years old.

Pretty sure Reyes was playing for Athletico Madrid last season and is now at Sevilla so he hasn't done to shabby really.
