Shall we take bets? - Reading close in on new signing

According to Jonathan Low at GetReading. He'll tell us who it is tomorrow...

Billy Sharp.

Hoping for someone of Sharp's or Austin's pedigree, but more than likely be someone very underwhelming.

After the transfer request, surely Rooney?

Based on Low's track record I'm not holding out too much hope for a story of any real substance.

It'll be Craig Goodwin.

'Reading are close to sealing the transfer of Nick Blackman. Blackman has gone off the radar for the past six months, but has been earmarked as a potential striker for League One.'

that's a bit harsh considering he's been in the job for only a few weeks. at least he has some news before the rest of the media, unlike his predecessor who just ripped off news that was already in the public domain. i like him. he comes across a nice genuine guy. jonny always felt very defensive and a touch ignorant.

Thought we said we werent pursuing our interest but would continue to watch him over next season?

Probably some Saints' fringe player.

I'm sure he's a lovely guy, but all of his stories are based around what's been in the national media over the last couple of days..rather than having any genuine sources himself.

He also has a habit of taking quotes/non-stories and making them sound a lot more dramatic than they are.

Crikey, have you forgotton how bad Jonny Fordham was? Fordham was caught out by fans on more than one occasion when fake rumours were posted online to catch him out, and he ran with the stories. He never had any sources either. They're in a role where by most of their stories come direct from the club itself. If he was to break news all the time then the club would probably ask him to stay away from all press conferences.

I was also very vocal in my criticism of Fordham tbf. It would appear that the EP sports desk doesn't attract the highest quality of sport journalists

Ive was no better in all honesty. I agree though, it appears to be a role for junior journalists rather than someone with a reputation and contacts in the sport.

Nah David Dibbin was best - circa early 1970s.

I always thought Fordham nicked his stories off the rumors and gossip on here...

We're adopting a new transfer strategy. Every player we're going to sign, we make it publicly known we won't.

Thats because he did.

Can't believe you are missing Clive "The Hound" Baskerville (who is supposed to be back at the Post) or Steve Thomson. Total quality local hacks
