St. Brynjar
MouldyRoyal How about 4-3-3?

McCarthy
Gunter - Pearce - Mapps - Bridge

Karacan - Williams - Guthrie

Kebe - Pogrebnyak - Drenthe

That's just perfect. Never though of 4-3-3 before, that would fix the problem of not having an attacking CM.

To be fair that's the team I would opt for as well (currently) Just let jimmy and Roy do what they want. We would need someone to thread a pass though.

i play 4-3-3 on fifa 13 it works well, can score loads of goals and have proper protection for the back 4.

Yeah, thought this when I heard we'd signed a defensive midfielder. Although Kelly in for Gunter (cue "but Adkins' style!" remarks).

I hate what we've become

I actually prefer Kelly to Gunter defensively but Gunter is faster and since you lack natural width in a 4-3-3 you need full backs who can get up and down. Unsure if Bridge can still do that at his age but the Brighton fans were still complimentary about his pace so...

Do you? I would have thought the wingers were just as capable of providing that in a 4-3-3 was in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2.

Ian Royal

................McCarthy
...Gunter..Pearce.Mariappa..Bridge
............Guthrie..Williams
Kebe...........Drenthe..........McAnuff
...............Pogrebnyak

Subs: Taylor, Kelly, Karacan, Robson-Kanu, Le Fondre (Morrison, Akpan)

like this, HRK over Kebe, Feds on the bench, Mcleary on the bench. Why Williams- is he really better than Jem?

Given he's played in the Bundasliga and we've signed him... I'd expect so.

royalp-we It's clear that our Roy (feels good saying that!) plays in a style where he has only one thing in his mind - attack. NA is trying to implement a free flowing, attractive style of football, which is sure to suit the style of football of our new recruit. To allow him to play freely and due to his height, it got me thinking about on who we pick in the midfield roles this coming campaign.

A lot of people i can see are saying they want our next signing to be an AMC or a striker, but tbh I would like to see another Leigertwood type player brought in. By all means we should give Leigertwood a chance himself. I just have a feeling should Legs not be up to it, although we have a lot of options and on paper it looks great- but a CM of Karacan, Guthrie, Carrico, or Akpan we will just be out muscled in the chump and won't win anything with the kick n rush / long ball tactics ALOT of the other clubs will be playing this season.

When we go back up we can play like Spain and have a team full of short-arse technical players, but we know what is required to get out the champ. We know it ain't pretty (106 exempt  )!

I hope I've posted this in the right forum/ topic

Feel free to mock / discuss

FWIW I'm now much more confident for the new season after signing our struggle pig today :D

Ouroboros
grey_squirrel LOL at anyone thinking Kebe will be fit for most of next season (as usual)

League apps:

08/09 - 41
09/10 - 42
10/11 - 36
11/12 - 33

So 2012/13 was the first in which he wasn't fit for most of the season.

Is it possible to have this pinned at the top of the forum?

Not sure I'd want to pick our first 11 and the teams here are not
in order of preference

But looks to me like a second 11 would survive in the championship
and there are some very decent players not in that 22

................McCarthy
...Gunter...Pearce...Mariappa...Bridge
............Guthrie..Williams
Kebe...........McAnuff..........Drenthe
...............Pogrebnyak

v

.........Blackman--ALF
HRK....L-Wood..Karacan....McCleary
...Kelly...Morrison...Gorks...Cummings
................Federici

Plus

Roberts, Akpan, Carricco, Obita
Stuart Taylor (Andersen)

Samuel,Jake Taylor, Losasso, D'Ath,
Hector, Sweeney, Arnold
Henly, Ugwu, Webb, Edwards, Partridge

What a squad we have! Having a strong squad should really benefit us in the long run with midweek games.

Still need a LB to be understudy to Bridge, a attacking midfielder and an additional striker.

Current best 11 IMO;

------------------McCarthy---------------
Gunter----Mariappa--Pearce----Bridge
-----------Guthrie-----Williams---------
HRK-------------------------------Drenthe
------------------McAnuff-----------------
-------------------- Pog-------------------

Kebe, McCleary, Carrico, Kelly, Morrison, Karacan, ALF and Akpan could always replace and wouldn't make the side weaker.

Already posted this elsewhere, but given the ambition we're currently showing, I'd be very disappointed if we started the season with Jobi playing the number ten role - his passing and goalscoring are not upto scratch. Dribbling, crossing and work-rate are all fine, lets keep him on the wing.

Nowhere near ready for the first team.

The u18 final v Fulham showed it - he dominates defences because he is strong, he came up against Stephen Arthurworry who is a bit more of a beast than most of those he comes up against and was completely anonymous as he hasn't learned how to use it against physical defenders.

Lot more to do before he's ready, could do with some time in the lower leagues to hone it.

I would suggest that the main reason his goalscoring isn't up to scratch is because he doesn't get in those positions whilst playing on the wing. I also don't think his crossing is that great, although comes up with some gems. Reckon the no. 10 spot would actually suit him rather well.

Although i agree - Adkins used him in this role as well as McD so there must be something there that they see for him to play there.

Makes me laugh with people saying Drenthe should play there........he's a left back/left mid

I've always felt Jobi gets into in brilliant areas of possession but is reluctant to shoot when the chance is presented.

That's because when he does it normally goes into the top row...

I was trying to be kind. His shooting is woeful.

If he was as deadly as an avergae striker, McAnuff would be awesome, but sadly, he isn't.

Last season 43 Prem shots for zero goals.

Maybe he should just dribble another few yards and get a few pens
