...must've been rammed - 2nd highest crowd in the CCL yesterday (behind Westfield) with 82. 8)

H.Wintney counted in 1040 for their Cup Tie.

Windsor stay 6th but the top two are pulling away slightly: - South Park back top again - hopped over Epsom & E who were not in action this w/e.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... if the forecast is anywhere near as bad as expected, then a lot of these could be 'flooded off' but there are fair number of local NL games scheduled for this Tuesday:
FA Cup 4th Qual. Replay: Aldershot v Shortwood
FA Vase 1st Round replay: Cove v Newhaven - winners go to Rye on 16th Nov.
Southern
Prem: Burnham v Bigg. Town; Hungerford v Redditch Utd
Div One Central: Chalfont St P v Sluff; Chertsey v Royston
Div One S&W Godalming v Cirencester T
CCL
Frimley G v Hanworth Villa
H.Wintney v Chess. & Hook Utd (19:30 KO)
Windsor v Alton
CCL D1 Cup Sandhurst v CB Hounslow - 'Fizzers' welcome the 2nd bottom club but have conceded 20 goals in their last 4 games - so hardly clear cut.
Hellenic almost a full league program in the Premier - including:
Ab Town v Cheltenham Sarries
Flackwell H v RTFC
Highworth v Binfield
Kidlington v Thame
Newbury v OCN
Wantage v Bracknell
... on Wed eve: Shrivenham v Highmoor/IBIS ; WBT v Ab Utd.
..will take my pick from any that survive - actually Tuesday's outlook is scattered showers during the day, drying later but cold - so should be Ok providing the goalposts/stands/clubhouses/pylons :shock: etc haven't blown away over the next 24 hrs (or sunk as per Dorking!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...just another snippet of news from the Anorak Chronicles : Southern League Merthyr Town have finally returned to Penydarren Park - played their first league match back in the Town yesterday vs Taunton - att. just over 500 - this after spells last season or two (?) at Taffs Well and this, as lodgers at Cinderford Town - quite a trek for their fans.
The pitch has been re-laid as a 3G surface with the intention of hiring it out to other clubs in the local community.

windsor had an extra yard of pace:i (only) assume that one or two of their players have played at a higher level given their general distribution and time on the ball.frimley green had a purple patch leading up to the equaliser,but once windsor netted their second goal,it was one way traffic,and five did not flatter them.

Thanks Frimmers. What happened last night at FG? I hear the match was called off because there were no pitch markings? Is this true? If so, I reckon a nasty little fine is heading their way.

And a reminder that there is Help For Heroes Day at Stag Meadow this Saturday where it's Windsor v Ash Utd.

Gates open at 1pm with all sorts of stuff going on leading up to kick off.

http://www.windsorfc.net/news/news.php?ID=N117

So instead of listening to reading struggle at Sheffield Wednesday, why not head down. And... there is a free to enter £100 prize draw.

Was at Stag Meadow last night (Tue 29th) for: CCLP Windsor 2-1 Alton Town.

Journey there was nearly scuppered by the f^%$ing cones on the A329(M) :evil: :evil: :evil: - crawled from Winnersh jn to M4 - but managed to 'nutter it' - missed my usual turning left off of St Lenny's Rd gambled on getting a space in the Car Park and was lucky! Food Bar was fully functional too - though I had already eaten.

Not sure of crowd size maybe close to 100 - fair number of Alton fans dotted about. Neither club's websites carry any details of the match yet - Windsor's doesn't even feature the match as an 'upcoming' fixture? :?:

For the first 20' or so thought the sides had swapped colours - the visitors were so much brighter and sharper and could have been three up very quickly. Kept at bay by some poor composure in front of goal and some flamboyant keeping.

Alton eventually took the lead from a pen - bit of a cheap one - but the Windsor CB put in a daft challenge with the ball possibly running out of play. Scored from the rebound after a good save. Windsor pegged a goal back close to HT, with a sumptuous far post volley from a corner, that went through the keeper before he could react.

... game ebbed/flowed probably more than the home side should have allowed - but Alton were certainly up for it and didn't appear to be playing like a side rock bottom with only one win. Late 2nd half appeared to run out of legs up front and got sloppy in central midfield. I had been very impressed with their young LB (had a touch of the Bale about him) and big No 9. - keeper made some very impressive saves too - reportedly only his 2nd game for them.

Windsor pressed further and further forward at pace until they won a penalty themselves. I couldn't see very well, had retreated up into the stand and the view of the Town End (?) is somewhat cloudy through that side panel! :| Did witness a cracking save and unlike the Windsor defenders the visitors were alert and followed in to clear the rebound.
Winning goal with about 20' left owed much in its making to the home keeper. With Alton piling forward for a win - he intercepted a loose ball on the edge of his box - was in danger of carrying it out, so flicked it up field, ran after it - dodged two tackles and from not far short of the centre circle, sent the right winger clear. His cross was knocked in by an extra man coming in unmarked on the far post - though the keeper nearly got to it.

Win lifts Windsor up to third.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elsewhere - in the CCLP - Hartley's league match with Chess 'n Hook was abandoned - local area power cut - Frimley Gn v Hanworth never started - pitch unplayable - though not due to surface but line painting issues - there weren't any visible.
Lots of rumbles on F'Focus about 'money drying up'.
Sandhurst league Cup tie, another club reportedly in some considerable turmoil, also postponed; as was the 2nd attempt to replay Vase game: Cove v Newhaven - trying again NEXT Tuesday (5th Nov).
games that were played -
CONF South : Farnboro 2-4 Bath City
Southern Prem: Bashley 0-1 Chesham, Burnham 0-3 Biggleswade Town, Chippenham 0-9 {NINE} Stourbridge :o , Hungerford 0-2 Redditch
One Central: Chalfont St P. 0-1 Slough, Chertsey 0-2 Royston - One S&W: Godalming 1-2 Cirencester T
Hellenic Prem: Ab T 0-3 Cheltenham Sars, Ardley Utd 2-2 Ascot - 'Yellamen' up to 7th and on a tidy run: 4w 5D in last 9, Flackwell H 1-0 RTFC, Highworth 1-1 Binfield,
Kidlington 1-1 Thame, Newbury 3-2 OCN :shock: , Wantage 3-1 Bracknell - Freds now 1 point behind leaders Reading Town but have FIVE games in hand.
Wessex League Cup: Andover Town 2-4 Newport IoW - played at Hants FAs ground at Winklebury in Basingstoke - think that could be Andover's last match there as they are trying to return to the old Portway Stadium - used by their predecessors.
Winchester 5-4 Sholing - think that might be Sholing's first defeat to a Wessex side this season - unbeaten in the league still.
...oh and thought it needed (another) mention - is on the FA Cup thread -
Staines won 1-0 @ Poole
...and last but not etc etc
Sh!ts beaten 1-2 by Shortwood @ the Rec (att 1200+) THREE steps below them in the Pyramid! :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:
- nearly went - but on reflection wasn't sure I'd get there in good time, to park and work out where to pay/sit/stand etc - far more complicated now they're applying FL T&C's to getting in to matches at their palatial stadium. :?
Though I think they'd relaxed most of their rules 'n regs for the Cup game and it was only £10 too. Actually got themselves so twisted up about what to 'relax' (if you get my drift?) and how to publicise it effectively in time - that they let any of their ST holders in for free.
FOC, out of interest our keeper was Ben Harris our star striker. He'd probably make the CCL team of the season in 2 positions given the chance!
It's taken a long time after his op in the summer but he's just about back to full fitness now and will start scoring loads soon.
The goal that he made last night was something else!
God knows how many penalties we've seen this season but there's often been 2, and hardly a game goes by without one. We miss and save about 50%.
...yup just this moment spotted that on the 'report' (if you can call it that) which has appeared on the Windsor website - still no attendance though? I had wondered if it was him, as there were several shouts of 'Ben' during the game; he certainly had itchy feet and tried to leave his area at every opportunity - not normal behaviour for a keeper.
If he plays there many more times he'll have to be careful about avoiding another injury, as he flew into and around a few hefty challenges. Some visiting strikers may not be quite as deferential towards him, as the Alton lads were last night. :?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tonight made the longer trip than usual for a midweek match, up to Corinium Stadium (Cirencester Town FC) for :

Hellenic Prem: Wootton Bassett Town 2-3 Abingdon United.
- thoroughly entertaining match - apart from the wind and drizzle ... and awful conditions on the drive back along M4 - WBT took an early lead with a very neatly worked goal then sat back.
Ab. Utd - rooted to bottom spot - having lost 13 straight in a row from the start of the season - started to push forward, helped by a strong wind. Took a lead by H/T then hung on through a torrid 2nd half. Finally succumbed to an equaliser following waves of WBT attacks - now also benefiting from the wind behind them. Was fairly sure normality would be restored and WBT would proceed to an expected three points BUT Ab Utd caught them again near the end, with a fortunate break on half-way. Striker ran clear - past advancing KP and had the composure to find the net - pandemonium.
WBT hurled themselves forward but Ab Utd endured - even started to thread clever passes through their opponents whenever they regained possession. This led to several silly & desperate challenges to stop them and ultimately two Red cards for the home side.
Approx 10' injury time played - most of it caused by WBT players continually holding lengthy and pejorative inquests with the Ref - who in the end just got fed-up with them and started sprinkling cards about.

Abingdon United soar to 6 points now (they'd finally won their 14th match - then lost the next three) and are also off the bottom :) - skipping above near neighbours Abingdon Town - who are rumoured to be very close to folding. :(

At the end of the match WBT fans 'massed' around the exit to the changing rooms to jeer the Ref. He'd been fussy but they should consider giving their own players a hefty share of abuse for a terrible performance too.

Elsewhere Highmoor/IBIS ran out 5-1 winners (just down the road from where I was) @ Shrivenham.

... delivering Daughter to Scout Camp beyond Slough on Sat AM - rest of kin still in the Highlands for Half-Term - so may pick further afield for a 'new' ground.
Still a bit wary of M25 Clockwise much past jn 25 - so may give furthest Essex a miss (where there are quite a few Ryman League grounds I've not managed) but might be tempted to try and get to some games up beyond the A1(M) A505.
- St Ives & Soham both have intriguing home Trophy ties vs Northern Premier League clubs. Or may opt for M40 route and attempt Southern League matches @ Corby, Evesham or Stratford.
Keeping a keen eye on the wet stuff though.....

Totally agree with Kevin Stott here. Building a healthy and well known/supported club in the town is far far far more important than promotion! 8)

...quick snippet from last night - and a bit more preview 'guff' :wink: :

HELLP Oxford City Nomads 0-4 Wantage Town - so 'Freds wallop 4th placed OCN to go top and still have 4 games in hand of 2nd place RTFC.
Ardley in 3rd still look well set though, just a point further back, on the same number of games as Wantage.
Reading Town have a tough one away at Binfield; whilst Ardley go to WBT where they would expect points.
Ascot and Highmoor/IBIS are hovering back in 7th/8th, also with games in hand aplenty, should more of the leading pack falter. Neither of them have easy rides today - 'Yellamen' go to Brimscomb - H/I host Flackwell @ Palmer Pk. Bracknell face one of the form sides @ Larges La this PM in Kidlington.

...and at the moment looks like the rain's holding off? 8)

Another gr8 win for NL today, 2-1 in a game played in gale force conditions against a determined side who had only lost one league game before today. Could have been more but for a blinding performance from the visiting 'keeper and a penalty which caught the cross wind and missed the goal by some margin!

Really enjoy watching NL; passionate side with a good bit of nastiness and plenty of pace, cheap to watch as well at £8. In fact, it is almost the complete opposite of watching Reading FC 8)

Windsor 3-2 Ash Utd on Help for Heroes Day at Stag Meadow.

Enjoyable game. Should have been more really as we dominated for large spells, and kept shooting from 12 yards straight at the keeper's feet.

We did of course give away our obligatory penalty which put us 1-0 down early on.

Crowd 446.

36 Hythe Town 2-2 Whitstable Town

St Ives 1-4 Nantwich Town
... included this one cos we got here - just! M4 beyond Windsor completely ph£cked - Overhead signs advised 5' delay to jn 4b - took close to 40' ! :evil: ...and as usual pn0b all mention of serious problems from Radio Baaarks - 'all lanes clear now' - was their comment - neglecting to mention that 'all lanes' concerned were *&^%ing stationary. :roll:
Att: 282 so what with slightly delayed arrival - missed about first 5-10' - meant no progs :( big noisy away following from The Dabbers. (?) Dreadful 1st half - 2nd half opened up but in truth 2 very poor sides for STEP3 & 4 on show. Not a great venue either - not many seats - fairly basic bar no Food - seemed to have run out of everything though were still trying to do Chips - if you wanted to wait. :| I know this is St Ives first season up at this level but my view of their efforts on the day - with a not unduly large crowd - bordered on the 'shoddy should do better.' Least the roads back were Ok - cut across to M1 which, though busy, flowed freely - home in about 1 3/4 hrs - well over an hour quicker than the journey out.

Binfield 2-3 Reading Town att only 89 - pretty low for this fixture - very good result for RTFC and retake top spot - three very poor results at home in a row for Moles now - had fought hard for a point at Highworth in midweek too? Their good unbeaten start has fallen away badly- now lost 4 of the last 6. :(

Other than one off cases like Guernsey or clubs that have been folded Windsor's 'free entry' days must be some of the highest crowds the level of football gets. Shame nothing has matched the success of the Egham game but i think with it being boxing day people just want a excuse to get out! :D

Boxing Day +1. There was no football available anywhere above Step 5 and it was a 1pm kick off which helped swell the crowd. I was hoping for 500 tops that day so to get 800+ was amazing. Also, Egham brought some supporters as well which helped.

Still, to attract 445 when there was a full football programme is still 3 times higher than we usually get. The key is to get some of them to return.

...depending upon finish time; getting out of MadStad; (never leave early and I'm back row of B16 :? ); rapid trudge to 'motor'; necessity of dropping any kid(s) back home etc etc : ---- - if I still have the 'appetite' after doubtless a heavily indigestible main course vs 'The Fakies' ----- might go for a nearby 15:00 match. Scours or Palmer Pk most feasible but with a good 'getaway' from Stadium - I might see if I can manage the huuuge E.Baaarks Derby @ Ascot or the other local dust-up @ York Rd? 8)
Doubtful if traffic conditions round and about the M'Stad will allow any attempt at other close-by ones to the South or West.
