MmmMonsterMunch Leon - In all seriousness is this squad actually better than our current position though?

Lots of them are ageing & past their best. McAnuff, Cummings, Kelly, Guthrie, Gorkss to name a few, others are acquisitions from mid table championship teams or League 1.

I'm not so sure....

this squad is better than the lack of creativity and performance that I've seen this season so far.

Now I'm not suggesting we get rid of Adkins. However we've got to improve and just saying replace a third of the team really isn't the answer.

No manager has a divine right to funds being made available ... Time to try out a few more academy players.. Tanner and Kuhl get my vote.

MmmMonsterMunch More in hope than anything else but I really hope the board back Adkins in Jan & allow him to build a squad that can compete for next season.

Anything can happen but surely we have no hope of play-offs with the current squad?

It makes absolute sense for them to write this season off & give him (Adkins)some cash to see what he can do.

:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

Post of the season from the upper reaches of Nigel Adkins backside.

No one in their right mind would give this guy another brass farthing of the clubs money.

Sorry ANOTHER brass farthing?! What fcuking money has he had? Drenthe & Williams are nothing to do with him whatsoever. We've made probably £3.5-4m in transfer fees from Palace for Kebe & Mariappa & as a result he was allowed to get Baird & Sharp on loan.

I'm not up Adkins' backside. The performances are woeful. BUT WHO ELSE WOULD WE GET AND WHO ELSE COULD MAKE A SUCCESS OF IT WITH THE CONTINUAL LACK OF INVESTMENT???!!!

Just staing facts Woodcote but nice to see you're rattled.

Brian had the likes of Long, Gylfi, Bertrand, Kebe at his disposal. Not to mention a fit Karacan.

Coppell had Shorey in his prime, Doyle, Kitson, Little, Long, Ingimarsson

If you think the current lot stack up to the above (which I've just mentioned off the top of my head) then frankly you're mental.

AirRaidSiren I'm not sure on half a season, I do know his first entire season was very inconsistent, very much like ours. He also had lack of investment, pretty much side by side with Adkins first season, albeit being half way through the first. Difference is, the fans didn't get on his back. Also, plenty of youth came through to the first team, when ours have, they've been ridiculed or sneered at by the fans.

I can compare quite easily, because it's a very similar situation we're in now to Pearson first season. Their fans gave him time, ours aren't prepared to give Adkins exactly that, it MUST be instant success

Instant Success!
If you offered most Reading fans slow progress right now they'd snap your hand off.

We are not experiencing slow progress.
We're getting worse! Recent results and performances show that conclusively!

All these prats saying "You can't expect every game to be great". We haven't seen ANY great games!
All these prats saying "Progress may not be instant". We've seen ZERO PROGRESS. It's not been slow, it has been NON-EXISTENT. In fact many would say we have REGRESSED.

I think Adkins should have brought on Le Fondre just for a boost to his feeling of involvement. A professional footballer should not need that; but it cannot help not to get on in those circumstances, when there was nothing to lose.

Brian used to irritate me by bringing on people like Hunt, Antonio, and, especially, Church for seemingly pointless cameos. Coppell used to do the same with a young Long. Only now do I understand what that was about. It is no good just telling players they are important to the squad; you have to show them that too. Things like that must have an effect on team spirit and positivity.

The squad is not good enough to get promoted. It is pretty much exactly the same shower of crap we had last year and the year before that only older and without Kebe, Roberts and Hunt. Only Brian could get anything out of this squad of players, NA's purchases have all been more or less crocked for a large proportion of the season and he insists on persisting with his tried and trusted playing formula with players who don't fit with it.

Our current entire back 4 needs replacing and we still need the attacking options NA was holding out for in the summer. But we're stuck in this mess until Anton officially goes and our new Omani's arrive.

No point risking an injury to Le Fondre just ahead of the window.

There was more to McDermott than getting the best out of players: he used to bring people in, such as Griffin, Kizanishvilli, Leigertwood when he came on loan. Let's hope Adkins knows how to slot some new people in keys roles in the window--they do not have to cost a lot, plenty of good pros about.

Ha ha! But how injured are you likely to get standing around in space waiting to no avail for a pass?

I'm only going by the minority on here who didn't accept Adkins from the get go, then they expected a winning formula.

I understand your point entirely, I'm just pointing out that it will take Adkins or whoever was going to take over if he hadn't of said yes, months to progress. Sometimes that is just the way it happens, teams get worse before the manager finally gets his team to play the way he wants it.

Again, I will reiterate the Pearson scenario, he took on a mixed up team, an inconsistent one. The club sacked two managers in one season and lost their footing. Is that what Reading fans want, sacking managers after a few games, putting the club in financial trouble? Since his arrival, he's steadied the ship and they will be promoted to the Premiership no doubt. I applaud him and the fans, I wish ours would be just as patient, that's all.

Yes I agree on that. McD did make some good acquisitions in his tenure. Lets see if Adkins gets that opportunity as to suggest he has thus far would be quite wrong.

No way Drenthe was his signing. That was an Anton glamour signing & he wouldn't have been on anyone's radar (for very good reason!!). I suspect Williams wasn't much to do with Adkins either. So far he's been allowed Baird & Sharp on 3 month loan deals.

He's had no backing whatsoever.

Oh do shut up. They were top quality players regardless of what they cost. We don't have that strength or depth any more however you try to twist what I'm saying.

So, sack Adkins and what then? Just over 2 days until the transfer window opens which gives any new manager very little time to assess the squad before the January fun begins. Great thinking by many on here.
