Investment in Farnborough FC

by readingfc13 » 20 Feb 2014 19:53

Farnborough have announced that we will be funding improvements to facilities at Paddy Power Park. The women's team will play their games there to begin with, although we may look having some youth team fixtures there too. Good news for both parties.

I don't understand Reading's fascination with Farnborough FC. I can only guess Spencer Twethewy (or Day whatever he's calling himself these days) is laughing all the way to the bank with the additional income from RFC.

Surely a more local NL club could have benefited from the investment eg Reading Town or Tadley Calleva?

I can only imagine it is because Farnborough are a signifant step up in terms of the level of football and the existing infrastructure in place when compared to the local sides mentioned. We have had two youngsters on loan there this season, Dan Lincoln and Jack Jeffrey, and if Reading are looking for a local club to loan players out to then they want something at a high enough standard. Of course that would also make Basingstoke and Maidenhead candidates but perhaps the Farnborough board are more receptive to the idea given the recent partnerships between the two clubs.
