Angry Shed Sex Just a drop in the ocean compared to the 300 million they've spunked on mainly average joes.

Mainly thanks to their transfer committee

That old chestnut. Personally I can't believe that all of the players they've bought would have been without Rodgers' knowledge or consent. Even if he's only had a hand in 50% of the dealings you can't honestly say that any more than 15/20% of them have actually come off.

They might've spent £300m but they also sold £200m worth of players, and mainly from their key players who, for a club like Liverpool, is going to be almost impossible to replace with similar quality.

Rodgers clearly made some mistakes but Liverpool are fast becoming a club who's fans expectations are going to make it a tough job for anyone to succeed in.

Tottenham lite, so to speak.

Yep, Carragher has made a similar point about Tottenham I think but you can easily make the same point about Newcastle, Villa, West Ham etc.

They're not spending quite the levels of Spurs and Liverpool but they're expectations and the effect it has on the pitch are similar (IMO).

I don't really buy into the net spend argument. You've still spent £300m on poor players, it doesn't matter whether you sold £200m worth.

Looks like Klopp is in, which is rather embarrassing for the guy with "reliable connections" on Talksport the other night who categorically ruled it out :?

I can certainly see that point of view genome, but when you're trying to improve each year, and that's what you're being measure on, then losing the key players in your team makes that quite a difficult task.

Money coming in is usually a good measure of how much quality you've lost and it's usually players that have performed well that attract significant fees. In a world where every transfer is a gamble and you're not going get a 100% success rate for your signings losing those who are performing possibly means you've got to sign a few players to get one that pays off (even more if you sign players like Balotelli!).

Well, he was on the transfer committee so no, none of the players were bought without his knowledge. The point is that the committee as a whole overrode his wishes on more than one occasion, for instance signing Sakho instead of bidding for Ashley Williams.

I can see the net spend argument being relevant in some scenarios. If 4 clubs all spent around £300M but 1 had to sell £200M in order to do that while the others didn't, then it could indicate one has a tougher job on their hands. But then for that argument to relevant you would need to know whether the £200M was sold due to tight finances or because the players were f*cking sh*t.

Anywho, I am rambling.

LFC supporter at work is gutted. Says they are 4 points off 2nd having had the hardest fixtures of any potential top 4 team, the net spend is low and their best forward is now back. Can see that it may look harsh, but football management is harsh, and getting Klopp looks great for them.

When you look at it that way it does appear harsh. They've been held back by injuries that's for sure, but when you've spent the money they have they should have a squad to cope with that (net spend or no net spend), and it seems that a lot of the issues the fans have is about the way their playing and the lack of perceived plan and progress as it is about the results.

Personally I think they should've stuck with him until December and then reviewed it but he was on borrowed time from the way things went last season and the sacking of his backroom staff.

Yeah, I think whatever your final assessment of Rodgers, getting Klopp to Anfield is an extraordinary coup and it would have been a missed opportunity not to act when it was clear he was interested.

Not to say that Klopp is a guaranteed success, it's not an easy job.

Bit of a comparison with Bodgers here. Like Liverpool, Dortmund also lost their mojo when their goal machine left for a bigger club. I don't think he will succeed there, but then again if he fails it won't be his fault. For entertainment value he's worth the money alone. Chelsea should be a good fixture. I think Liverpools expectations are too high now. Their a bigger version of Spurs.

Might even cancel out my dislike of Liverpool.

I'd have shat bricks if Villa had done the sensible thing. Villa, Dortmund, Dortmund, Villa. See.

Looks like O'Driscoll and McAllister are leaving their positions at Liverpool. Bizarre going ons when you consider this was a Fenway Group appointment.

They got rid of Rodgers hand picked backroom staff and brought these two in.

Not that bizarre that a new manager will work with his trusted coaches. FSG's intention at the start of the season was not to be sacking Rodgers.

Isn't our very own Barry Hunter head scout up there these days?
