No Fixed Abode Well. Let's see if I'm correct. About half a season to go. If Blackman's replacement comes in and does better I'll take back everything I said.

So if we finish above 12th you will have been wrong? As that's where Blackman's contribution has got us?

Blackman's contribution may have got you above 12th if the likes of Al-Hasbi or Bond didn't throw it in the net every few games.

 actually you're growing on me, you should stick around and post more

Maybe they did that because of Nick Blackman.

Just to recap Kes

No Fixed Abode See the league table without his contribution this season and you're hovering dangerously above the relegation zone...

That table is taking away all of Blackmans goals but not replacing them with any effect his replacement might've had.

Now, do the same with Arsenal without Cech's contribution and they're losing every game.

It's daft. Just saying.

Wish him and his enormous tongue all the best at Derby.
How long before his annoys the Derby faithful, I give him 6 games max.

Anyway there's always a job for him as an arrogance emoji

Of course Arsenal would lose every game if they didn't have someone between the sticks. That is daft to say that.

I suppose when top pundits says "City will miss Aguero's goals" they don't know what they're talking about? Because, as you say, his replacement would come in and do much better.

Get Reading now saying the deal with add ons is £4m with £3m guaranteed in instalments.

If that's the case this is very decent business for someone who has played well for 3 months in 3 years.

No Fixed Abode See the league table without his contribution this season and you'd still have more points than Chelsea.

With Tshibola in the team

P12 W6 D3 L 3 Points 21

Without Tshibola in the team

P13 W3 D3 L 7 Points 12

I know who I'm missing more.

I'm not too fussed that Blackman's no longer available for selection due to us being paid 3 million + add ons for his 5 months of good work. I also think we'll now be a better team without him. Before his purple patch most of us thought he was gash and if we're all to be honest, not too many of us considered him a valuable Reading player and would have accepted pennies for him prior to this season.

If I were a betting man would I bet that Vidra, who has an impressive goal scoring record at this level which unlike Blackman has been maintained over more than a 5 month period is likely to regain form under McDermott and score goals for fun. Would I put money on Nick Blackman applying himself at Reading during his last 6 months for the betterment of the team and go on to match Vidra's goal scoring reputation? Certainly not.

Blackman says during his first Derby interview that his best position is down the middle as a striker. Really Nick? I can't help thinking that he only came good for us when it suited him in his final year of contract. The club put the effort into his development and have now decided to treble their money against getting a zero return. Good business by the club I'd say.

My money's on MacDermott building a team around Vidra and Vidra finding form.

Good luck Nick, thanks for this half a season and see you a week Saturday.

^^ Exactly this. Normally I'd be livid if Reading sold their top goalscorer midway through the season, but with Blackman I'm really not that bothered. 18 league goals in 113 appearances isn't exactly prolific is it, with 11 in this half season.

Also agree that Brian will get the most out of Vydra. He's hard working and talented and Brian has a track record of capitalising on those traits.

3points
Longhorn1970 Sadly I don't think the owners could resist £5m plus

That would be like getting 4m for Sean Morrison. Good business.

Sean who?

Surely it shouldn't be Brian's aim to build a team around Vydra if he's leaving at the end of the season, yes he's a good player but he's only on loan.

True.. But I'd like to think we'll be making the most of him to help get us into a play off position. You never know if we achieve that and go on to win ( we are owned one play off win) Vidra could end up a Reading player according to the terms of his loan deal.

To be honest, if Brian spent a reported £3m+ on a 26 year old striker who was out of contract at the end of the season and who had a career strike rate of 1 goal every 6 games, I'd be questioning his judgement.

We might live to regret it. I guess we'll know better in February.

I think it's more of a case of good business on the clubs part regardless. Nick Blackman's had the time and effort of 3 of our managers, Brian, Adkins and Clarke. A 1.2 mil fee signed when we were a prem club with the club looking to develop the player within a 12 - 18 month period to then either offer a new contract or sell at a profit. Blackman came good VERY late into the plan late after much effort by MacD, Adkins and Clarke. Club did the right thing and trebled their money for their investment.

Good luck to Nick .. Just glad we did alright at the death.
