A Keeper and a Defender?

by Snowball136 » 22 Jan 2016 10:53

Reading the latest McInterview it sounds like he's after two more players
as well as the Polish guy, but not in midfield or up front

QUOTE

As well as looking to bolster his attacking options, McDermott admits he has identified another part of the squad which he hopes to add to this month.

“There is another area that I’m looking to strengthen,” said Royals' boss.

“I won’t say what that is, but there is another area I’m looking to do something with - if I can.”

McCarthy own loan with a view to buying him back? Another CB?

No, he wants to add a couple more. We have not yet signed Deniss the Latvian striker. So if we do get him it'll be him plus 1.

Maybe I misread but it reads like two for the back five to me

2 right backs plus this Latvian guy. Gunter will leave so we'll need a replacement for him and a back up. Al Habsi is performing now so I think we'll be OK with him for the rest of the season.

Would that because we are leaking goals every game then?

Oh no. We aren't.

So why, other than your silly prejudices, would we be so desperate for a new keeper?

Guess he's just a few months late following the herd.

Last 12 games

1-3
0-1
0-1
1-2

1-0

0-1
1-2

1-0

2-2
1-1
0-1
5-2

14-16 in 12 games = 1.33 goals per game

Over the season we have conceded 1.11 goals per game (11th in league)

over the last 12 games we’ve conceded 1.33 goals per game
and that is 15th/16th in the league

If you do that stat for the last 11 games it would be different though....

Yep and for the last four games it's even worse at 1.5 goals per game (19th)

We definitely don't need a keeper. They're playing better now. We need a striker and a right back

Key word: now

Al-Habsi is an accident waiting to happen as him charging out at 3-2 up proved when Wells hit the post. Bond is young but won't improve if we don't play him.

Yes we are, we can't keep a clean sheet to save our lives. We're not shipping a tonne of goals but we are conceding soft goals in almost every game, and as we've had trouble scoring at the other end, it has been costing us.

Not sure why the keepers seem to be getting blamed for every goal. Yes they make mistakes but it's not always their fault. Recently mistakes haven't been made.

I'm not saying that the keepers have been at fault for our lack of clean sheets recently, I'm saying we concede soft goals and we need a new keeper. The two arent mutually exclusive.

And how many of the (few) goals we have conceded have been down to the keepers?

And look at my post above yours you dickwad. You're either stupid or incredibly lazy.

Sorry that sounded harsh. I'm finally getting back to eating healthy food after Christmas and I'm really aggy. No hard feelings WSM.
