Ian Royal Royal Ginger Only 2 defeats in the last 14! That's crept up on us. Not enough wins sure, but it looks a bit better than it did. Well done McD and team.
Gotta keep up the theme of the recent wins against Rotherham and Charlton to convert cup form into the league. It's the league that keeps you your job (not that I'm suggesting Bri's in danger). 41% win rate including the cup, just 31% in the league.
I'd settle for a draw at Huddersfield mid-week though.
I said BEFORE the first few games that it was unfair to judge him until he'd had some time.
His total record (which started with WLL) is W7 D6 L4 27-18 = 41.2% Wins
If you give him that two weeks (as I said at the time, before the time) his record is P14 W6 D6 L2 22-15
a 42.9% win ratio, just two defeats in 14, both by a single goal.
If you ignore the cupWLL (in the two weeks I'd ignore)
then
WDLDL 5 Points
then
DDWWD 9 points
11-10 overall if you ignore the cup games, ten games where it's clear we started from a low base and maybe (MAYBE) are finding our feet, though that's not yet clear as these two wins were v Rotherham and Charlton, relegation candidates and then we only drew at home to Fulham who are vaguely flirting with the drop.
But what I like is you can see McDermott working things out
trying to find the balance between clean-sheet 0-0s and 4-3s.
It seems to me he has a plan and that is to play 451 and keep a clean sheet for the hour, then go 442. I think he upset Norwood doing that a week ago, so pulled Quinn yesterday.
I think the team lost the plot at Charlton, lost their discipline. It was a one-off.
I think he knows what a talent Williams is, but I think he also knows we work better with a different type of midfield. I have a sneaky suspicion we might lose Williams and Norwood in the summer and have a central midfield of Evans, Tish, Quinn with Khul as back up.
This Tuesday, all the vibes are that we will send a weak team to Huddersfield, In particular saving the defence.
We may get walloped but,
IF McD CLEARY SENDS A DEPLETED TEAM I will leave that game out of any judgement of McD win, lose or draw
It's "free-pass" IMO
Frankly, I think our chance of getting past Palace are slim, but the manager
ir right to prioritise next Friday's game. He knows he's going to make a
lot of changes = saying "I'm going to do what's right for the club"
Just like Man City basically threw the FA Cup game away to Chelsea
so they could win The League Cup, get through in the Champions league,
the much-bigger deal
