West Stand Man Dead simple really. No.

This has been a poor season and only the team can be ultimately held responsible for that. OJ is one of the squad that has underperformed and he, along with the other loanees, has done nothing to suggest that he is worth keeping. We need a good clear out and rebuild, so lets see just that.

On OJ specifically, I have never quite understood the love that is spread for him. He has been an OK impact sub on a couple of occasions. Otherwise he has been a headless chicken who has added next to nothing of any value.

I think we all got a bit excited when he showed some glimpses of real quality. He showed his potential.

But you're right, he hasn't lived up to his potential often enough. Now that we're at the end of the season we can evaluate. And the conclusion is: They are all sh*te.

I'd love it if that happened. He can be an excellent player on the left wing for us.
It's obvious the club won't overpay for him. He could have a great season next year.

Top Flight Wow. Opinion has changed very quickly towards Ola John. We were loving him only a couple of weeks ago.

Remember his best position is out wide. Not sitting at the top of Brian's recent diamond formation. That's why he has turned into Royston all of a sudden, isn't it?

Not worth it for me. If Brian is going to keep the diamond next year, John will be played out of position, so a resounding no as he will be a bench warmer and just coming on late in the game. No thank you.

Yeah, you're right, I don't think he'll suit the diamond. He has to be played wide out on the left for him to be most effective.

I have no idea what formation we'll be playing next season. I guess it depends what players we can get. I'd like to see us revert to a 4-4-2. But we'll need 2 strong running centre midfielders and 2 hard working wingers. It's hard to say whether John will be able to cement himself into the team as a first choice winger as he doesn't do enough of the dirty work. Our front men in Kermorgant, Cox and Rakels, they certainly won't be defending from the front the way Doyle, Kitson and Long used to.

Good points raised but what's to say Brian sees him as a LM in the long term? I'd say Ola John is young enough to learn to play on the wing, as a number 10 or maybe a striker off a big man up top one day.

He's got that eye for goal and the pace to beat many a CB in this division. He'd be a good signing for the right price.

Flattered to deceive. Looked pacey in a slow team. Offered no ability to defend. Which contributed to goals conceded.

But thats why I said he could learn to play a role further forward than LM (Which is how Twente & Benfica used him) as opposed to putting him on a pitch sometimes surrounded by 3/4 dross attacking team mates and expecting John to defend (which I agree, is not his best quality  )

Hang on though, So how many goals against us has he contributed to?!

Plenty of potential as a left winger in a 4-4-2 or as a left forward in a 4-3-3 or maybe at the tip of a diamond.

£3 m is way too steep for what he is currently IMO.

Just gonna throw it out here that the 'supposed promotion front runners and proud historic giants of the Championship' Sheffield Wednesday signed their top man Lucas João for around £2m. 'Forces-to-be-reckoned-with-come-title-favourites' Derby County signed Abdoul(lol) Camara for £2m and Nick Blackman for £3m.

My point being that if we want to mix it wiht the 'big boys' then £3m is what we need to be spending. Ola John has done enough for me to show he could be worth that fee.

The club may be in talks, that doesn't necessarily mean it's Brian's call..... see Rakells.

+1

It's about right in today's market for a player of his potential.

If Blackman is the benchmark, then £3m for Ola John seems reasonable.

However, that doesn't mean there are not necessarily better signings to be had, with or without £3m to spend on a winger although you'd hope the scouts/club would have already explored those options and discussed with the manager before making a bid.

Speak for yourself. I would bite their hand off if Benfica offered us Ola John for £120k

He reminds me of Kebe in that he can pull a moment of magic out of nothing and I watch football for players like that. Even if it is 80% below average to poor the rest of the time.
