Plymouth lost their first 3 games of this season (including getting comfortably beaten by us), signed Tanner, and are now on a 6-game winning run. Talk about making an impact. Ikpeazu was a sub for Cambridge in that match, good to see it's worked out for him after he turned down a professional contract with us.

Fosu came on at HT for Colchester and assisted both their goals after that, so pleased for him.

Lower down, George Legg at Hungerford appears to be getting rave reports in the local press here, sounds like he pulls off numerous spectacular saves every game. Stopped every penalty he's faced this season as well

Work with a Cambridge fan, she told me Ikpeazu looked like a lump who had no idea how to play football.

Happened to notice for Margate's game on Tuesday that Lewis Ward almost scored and also set up the winning goal. When I've seen him in the past his kicking hasn't stood out so maybe he's improved in that area?

Any keeper that almost scores/directly sets up a goal sounds like it's more luck than judgment or at least certainly not necessarily indicative of an improvement in ability or technique.

It could just be luck, and obviously you're going to have lots of good kicks that come to nothing, but there are clear differences between goalkeepers. Hahnemann didn't have much accuracy, but he could kick it well into the opposition half. Lots of our young goalkeepers struggle to reach the halfway line.

It's a bit weird, some of the kids we produce can kick really accurately and are very comfortable on the ball (Dan Lincoln and Jon Henly, and George Legg scored for the U21s last year), and then the likes of McCarthy and Southwood are right at the other end. I can't really remember what Ward's kicking is like so I'll trust KC. It suggests that kicking is something they have or don't, not something we're really good at training.

And have you seen the highlights of the game - this is League 2 .... but it looks like it could be conference; all 5 goals are scrappy ... with extremely poor defending and/or goalkeeping.

Sorry, forgot the English Football rule where every goal is due to a defensive error rather than the skills of the attacker.

Oh give over ... there are some goals where the assist comes from a skilfull move, putting the goal on a plate for the attacker with a great cross or a pass ... and there are scruffy goals where a player shins the ball to someone else who bundles it over the line, with a defender falling over his own feet in his attempt to clear the ball.

Are you telling me that watching Fosu's assists on the highlights made you think: "Wow, if we only had this guy in our team ... Kermy couldn't miss that ...'?

Apparently made a whole load of world class stops on Saturday, Gillingham Twitter was using capital letters every time to describe his UNBELIEVABLE saves

I would tend to agree. From the extended highlights I saw Spurs ran the Gills absolutely ragged, but their finishing didn't deserve 5.
