Any keeper that almost scores/directly sets up a goal sounds like it's more luck than judgment or at least certainly not necessarily indicative of an improvement in ability or technique.
It could just be luck, and obviously you're going to have lots of good kicks that come to nothing, but there are clear differences between goalkeepers. Hahnemann didn't have much accuracy, but he could kick it well into the opposition half. Lots of our young goalkeepers struggle to reach the halfway line.
It's a bit weird, some of the kids we produce can kick really accurately and are very comfortable on the ball (Dan Lincoln and Jon Henly, and George Legg scored for the U21s last year), and then the likes of McCarthy and Southwood are right at the other end. I can't really remember what Ward's kicking is like so I'll trust KC. It suggests that kicking is something they have or don't, not something we're really good at training.
