Some of the names linked are an absolute joke. Hoddle? Reid? Howe? PULIS? Even Pardew? Really? What's he done that suggests he can put together a successfull England team? His ego is bigger than most of the squad for a start. I just don't see it.

For me, you have to go Foreign this time. Not English/British.

Has Sol Campbell put himself forward for it yet?

That is an awful selection. Generally, I would be happy with anybody but Sam Allardyce, but Hoddle has just spent the last two months talking himself out of the job for me: I have never heard anybody with a duller view of football. Of the English lot it should be Pardew, but in truth it has to be a foreigner.

What's dull about Hoddle's approach then?

And why such anti-Allardyce stance?

+1.

Of all the summarisers, Hoddle is generally the most listenabababababable, and offers genuine tactical insight.

File this with HM's insistence that Cook and Anderson should be dropped, I think.

Disagree on Hoddle.
Most noticeable thing was bigging up Jordan Henderson in the 0-0 draw with Slovakia. "Henderson has put in some wonderful crosses".

Er, no Hoddle, he put his head down, didn't pick anyone out and just lumped it in hoping for the best.

Think that's a bit harsh on Henderson to be fair, and Hoddle as a result.

Quite often Henderson puts the ball where he should do, making his forwards make the right runs or just knowing that they'll be there. As a result he plays the game on the front foot and at a less pedestrian pace than some of our other players who pass sideways and slow the game down through fear of giving the ball away. I'm sure Henderson put in some less than good crosses as well but he also set up Deli Alli's effort that was cleared off the line with one.

A great example of Henderson doing it was also the quick through ball for Vardy to create that early chance he missed. That was the kind of ball Drinkwater was consistently praised for last season.

Edit: Here's Henderson's performance vs Slovakia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tpfbzG-8RI. Not a great deal of crossing to be fair, but one set up Alli and one set up Kane. That's not too bad IMO.

Largely still valid I suppose. Hoddle and Pardew are the favourites so far....

As he is the last turkey hanging in the butcher's, it has to be Pards. I like Eddie Howe too much for him to be considered.
