MATCHWATCH : Swansea City (h)

by Sutekh » 07 Aug 2021 17:29

Tuesday 10th August, 8pm k.o.

This is the first game to be played at Reading’s new home, the Select Car Leasing Stadium, so let’s hope it can be made into a fortress and that at least the first goal scored is from a Reading player (and at the right end).

I can’t be arsed to do a “proper” formed MATCHWATCH for what is likely to end up more a “youth” fixture in a competition that no-one takes too seriously.

The basics for this is that I can’t see Reading playing too many first team players from Saturday’s sojourn at Stoke as any more injuries on top of the two and a half (Meite, Ejaria and Joao’s shoulder) already known will make a competitive start in the league more than a little tricky.

But what side does get selected though? Only 5 on the bench at Stoke suggests that some of those first teamers will have to be risked plus the fact that the FL’s ridiculous ruling that 1 appearance makes a player of “professional standing” is hardly encouragement to play any youngsters if you’re a club sailing close to the wind of FFP.

As to Swansea, who cares? The expectation is they’ll field a largely reserve team and with Reading having failed to beat them for god knows how many games over the last 13/14 seasons or whatever it is will make it a difficult game anyway.

The match has to be decided on the night so be prepared for penalties if no-one can win by playing the proper game.

The referee is Samuel Barrott, taking charge of division 2 level clubs for the first time and so has had no previous with Reading.

Zip Need to play the five bench players from today, McNulty and some of the Academy lads.

..................Southwood
Holmes, Moore, Dorsett, Bristow
Azeez, Tetek, Rinomhota, Camara
.............McNulty, Puscas

Can't be any new debuts, or it just increases the official squad size.

Maybe play Sackey as he has played for the first team. Otherwise that side would be fine. I don’t care if we win. It’s about avoiding injuries.

Very +1 there Zippers

Get McNulty on the pitch, Pauno has made it clear that he doesn’t fit into our technical strategy, ....so what...save our preferred players, get the likes of Marc out there...it’s a no-risker.

.....and of course....you never know....

Well it's Swansea so that's unlikely even if the club was in a better condition.

Not beaten them in any comp since 2008. should be an incentive to try and end our jinx.

Play the same team as we did today except Southwood in goal. Rather not blood too many youngsters in or the EFL will be even bigger pricks and count each youngster who plays as a senior player in the 23 limit.

Well yeah. That's the rule.

So as was suggested earlier just play the ones who have already made an appearance is the way to go. Certainly don’t want to see Swift or Joao play

Disagree. Too late really. If you start with the five on the bench and play Dorsett, Sackey and McNulty who have already played for the first team that’s eight of the team you can start with meaning you only have to play three of yesterday’s starting line up. Keep subs to a minimum.

Sure pauno said about giving first teamers more pitch time for this fixture as they missed a game in pre season due to Covid

Subs: Rafael, Morrison, Moore, Laurent/Rino, Swift, Ejaria, Joao

Rather than train. Better to have match time to work on a few things.

Any chance you could quit the massive moron act? It's hard enough putting up with just your natural levels.

It's not funny. It's annoying.
