Norfolk Royal Bit worrying to see Jlo's most recent report where he says Liam has been practising free kicks at training.

He might be improving at them, who knows, but his attempts last season really didn't suggest he had the talent for it and of course it isn't particularly common for defenders to be set piece specialists, wing backs maybe like Irwin and Harte but only centre back I can remember taking set pieces was Luiz.

I've seen Liam take three free kicks for us. Each one he passed tamely into the wall. That said Meite's free kick at Wigan a few seasons ago must take the biscuit. Poleaxed Miazga, even the Reading fans laughed.

He's taken a few in the past and iirc they've been shit.

Probably why he is practising them then.

Bit worrying that Pauno told the new signing we'd be playing possession football.

Martin Hicks used to smash the odd one in, but I take your point.

More passing it around at the back, less dynamic football, less chances created.

yep thats just your reading of it. Brentford played passing football last year, as did Norwich.

tbh, you ask 92 football managers in the league and 90% of them would prob say they play possession football. The others are managed by Colin, McCarthy and that chap at WBA. its a meaningless comment on its own really

Most teams who aspire to being one outside the top flight fail to manage it though.

Paunovic didn’t say he was going to play passing football, he said possession football. There’s a difference, however subtle.

Amongst the season ticket fiasco (I’ve got mine but still need to pick up other tickets and a new member card), the possible financial state on the club, lack of squad depth, I am so excited to get back to football again. 533 days since Barnsley at home on 29/02/2020. Been far too long.

Agree. Possession football tend to prioritise retaining possession above all, on the basis that sooner or later you'll create an opening. But that frequently leads to slow probing football with lots of backwards and sideways passing and allows the opposition to get organised and set up, so actually creates limited opportunities. And often results in risks taken in your defensive rather than attacking third.

Passing football can be that too. Or it can be incisive up tempo moving the ball through the thirds and catching the opposition half set or out of position.

Find possession football dull in the extreme. And we very rarely, if at all, succeed at it.

Sorry meant to say possession football in both occasions

But point remains, it’s a meaningless sound bite. Everyone plays ‘possession football’, it can mean a hundred different things
