Interesting* titbit from that there Twitter from last night.

A Shrewbury Town Podcast posted that they were aware of a Scandinavian consortium, which includes a number of "ultra high net worth individuals" who have been looking to purchase a L1 club to "invest heavily into". This consortium decided to move on from interest in Shrewsbury Town and focus attention on another option.

Not saying we are that option but worth an idle post on a UR&G thread.

+ 1 Funnily enough, I was chatting to I think some Norwegian guys when I was having a meal in the Cilantro restaurant at the Voco Reading hotel a short while ago. We were chatting about Haaland and all things football. They were nice fellas and gave us a couple of bottles of wine.

Be even better if a certain couple of Icelandic heroes were involved. After all, Iceland is part of Denmark.

Yeah I think the only problem is timeframes, when people say "sustainable", how long do they expect that to last? That's the only thing I'd say.

How much money has the Brentford owner put in? In their build up to promotion, it felt like they brought in big transfer fees to finance the squad every season.

They did spend big transfer fees, but that was more than made up by selling at least one player for a big fee each season:

(Figures from TransferMarkt)
2014-15 - Spent £5.6m; Sold £3.8m; Net -£1.8m; Biggest sale - Adam Forshaw (£3.8m to Wigan)
2015-16 - Spent £10.4m; Sold £25.5m; Net +£15.1m; Biggest sale - Andre Gray (£12.4m to Burnley)
2016-17 - Spent £5.2m; Sold £14.4m; Net +£9.3m; Biggest sale - Scott Hogan (£10.5m to Aston Villa)
2017-18 - Spent £11.3m; Sold £15.2m; Net +£3.9m; Biggest sale - Jota Peleteiro (£6.5m to Birmingham)
2018-19 - Spent £6.6m; Sold £35.0m; Net +£28.4m; Biggest sale - Chris Mepham (£13.6m to Bournemouth)
2019-20 - Spent £34.7m; Sold £34.3m; Net -£0.4m; Biggest sale - Neal Maupay (£15.6m to Brighton)
2020-21 - Spent £7.3m; Sold £62.0m; Net +£54.7m; Biggest sale - Ollie Watkins (£34m to Aston Villa)

Basically they were doing what we did in the late-Madejski era.

Similar to what we did - nearly all those players never performed consistently at that level again. Quite a skill to make a player look better than they are and sell them at peak value.

The difference a decade makes! The £500k paid for Andy Hughes would probably have been nearer £5,000,000

Or just very very old and out of touch. Which tbf, is consistent with TRF's previous posting.

But there's more to it than that. Where does Denmark even enter it? The post was about generic scandanavian, which includes Iceland in its own right. Why would Icelandic heroes (one has to assume Gunnarsson and Ingimarsson) be involved in a group of extreme high wealth individuals - they certainly aren't that.

Nobody has mentioned our Icelandic contingents involvement? I assumed they were entirely separate matters. Imagine though, Bryn backed by billionaires. Can only dream.

Anthony Smith is reporting the young boy who owns Gymshark is taking over.

Take it with a pinch of salt, Smith is very unreliable and full of nonsense.

It's nuts to think that in 40 years we've only had 1 decent owner. Surely we're due another good owner

Tbf his tenure was 20 years. And you're being harsh on Smee who literally saved the club.

Also, I think Smee's downfall was largely down to his business failing in the recession rather than any wilfull mismanagement.
