Rumour - Selles to Stoke?

Would you blame Selles if he goes? A league up and a slightly less basket case ownership?

Absolutely couldn't blame him. But Stoke have become a trigger happy club who don't give managers time. Schumacher did a great job at Plymouth and failed. Alex Neil took Sunderland from L1 to top half Championship before failing at Stoke.

I remember the 1871 pod interviewed Steve Coppell a few years ago and asked what advice he'd give managers today. He said choose the right club, as at 80% of them you have no chance. I'd put Stoke in that bucket.

But they are a Championship club with loaded, local owners who are fans of the club (even if they have lost their way in the past 5 years). So no doubt it's appealing.

It would be difficult to blame him if he went, certainly wouldn`t be in the same bracket as Pardew and McGhee, been nothing short of admirable for the last year for putting up with this shit show.

Yeah, Selles owes us nothing, has given his all - an even given Stoke's recent reputation, I'd expect him to go if they are interested.

In fact given how long it took certain sections of the fanbase to credit Selles, it might be our just desserts if he went.

Would be very disappointing if he left. Couldn't blame him though.

He needs to go somewhere he'll get time; Stoke don't seem like that club.

It's a no-brainer for him.
It's not exactly a glamour move but at least he would be safe in the knowledge they have the cash to pay up his contract when the inevitable axe falls.
It would be another nail in our coffin but he has earned the right to get some security.

Would imagine David Challinor would be the prime target.

If it was Selles then Reading could do worse that trying to persuade Schumacher to replace him.

Like the fact that Paul Ince is in the running, that would be a match made in heaven!

Let's hope the sale is actually completed as I don't think Selles will go if it is.

Stoke City are moving quickly after the dismissal of Steven Schumacher. Norwich have given Stoke permission to speak with first-team coach Narcis Pélach over the job. Pélach expected to take GK coach Paul Clements if talks are successful #scfc #ncfc

That is good news, so assume it won't come to pass and Selles is confirmed by the end of the month.

Wouldn’t blame him one bit. He’s been incredibly loyal in these circumstances.

If he wants more money, a severance package within 18 months and a Championship mid table performance on his CV, its a no brainer.

Looks like Stoke have got their main target firmly in their sights.

Stoke, along with the likes of Sunderland, Bristol City etc. are almost unmanageable with expectations of the fans always being high.

Nice guy, improved a lot here and done a lot for us in tough circumstances.

Would rather he stays but not convinced he's done enough for us to be worried about losing him though tbh.

All the best, whatever happens.

Let's be honest, if we had money he would have been sacked last November, but credit to him, he learnt and got us through a very difficult patch.....No doubt Ainsworth is Couhigs favourite and he would be lined up.

If he went, we'd probably get Hunt until the takeover got completed. But once it does, we should have almost our pick of decent L1 managers.

So whilst i hope Selles doesn't go, I don't think it's necessarily a disaster if he does. There are certainly things he's doing that aren't working brilliantly, even though he's well in the net positive.

I felt we started last season playing quite well but not banking results before becoming abject, so it wouldn't be a total surprise if we fell appart and he persisted with a tactic that had failed. I think very unlikely, but plausible.

If he were to leave, move now and he's got 3 months stuck with whatever he inherits, coupled with a level of expectation. I'd be more worried about him moving come December if we're still in the same position as we are now.

Regardless of how things go between now and Christmas, he'd still have the old "did well at a basket case club" and "did well with a squad full of kids" ticks on his side.
