– att 256Andover New Street 1-0 Heanor Town
– att 953 – ANS reach their first Vase S-F
– great achievement for a side that were regularly the whipping boys down at STEP06
- in the 10 seasons up to 2017, they only finished out of the bottom 3 once, shipped over 100 goals on 6 occasions.
- surprisingly promoted for 17/18 they finished rock bottom after another disastrous campaign but recovered post-VIDS to get back up to the WESSEX Premier at the 2nd attempt
- this season are flourishing – just outside a PO spot with games in hand.
- very probably beneficiaries of the sorry demise of Andover Town who, a bit like Newbury, have gone under at least twice and reformed
- they still occupy the Portway Stadium nearby to New Street but currently scrabble around in the Hants Senior Premier League (STEP07) A.F.C. Whyteleafe 1-0 Bourne Town
– att 1,540
– another ‘from the ashes’ success here: the original Whyteleafe were forced out of their Church Rd ground by new owners and folded in 2021 (allegedly was the same property developers that recently caused Abingdon Town to ‘close down’)
- re-formed and climbed up from the County Leagues and moved up & across from the Southern Counties East Div One last season
- so an ALL Southern S-F line-up.

Amersham Town - leaders ‘Magpies’ stunned by 2 BA goals inside 5’ but were ahead by the 70’ mark Broadfields United 2-2
Wokingham TownHarefield United 2-1
BurnhamMilton United 0-3
Egham Town – was at this - only 55 in attendance at Hithercroft for the ‘lodgers’
– was a far bigger crowd (understandably) for the ‘Rugger B&ggers’ (Wallingford at home to Bicester)
– lots of fancy blazers and sparkling plonk about too – higher class of followers obv. (Though they ran out of Loose Cannon by H/T)
- managed to creep in and get a parking space right out the back by the other Rugby pitches
- the ‘footer’ next door was a scrappy niggly gripe-ridden swearfest – felt sorry for the officials who struggled to control the game and were rather unfairly berated throughout by both sets of players benches and fans – a few Reds dished out at the end.
- ‘Sarnies’ led after about 12 secs (!) & stay 2nd – is between them and Amersham for the title methinksReading City 3-1 Ardley United
- att 132Risborough Rangers 0-2 Wembley
Virginia Water 1-3 Edgware & Kingsbury
– poor result for VW whose PO chances look to be fading away after this
– down at the foot E&K’s 3rd successive win drives them closer to safety and in range of a cluster of clubs, some of whose form is dropping them back into peril.
- rather worrying that this includes Berks Co (who’ve played more than those around them) Wokkers, Reading City and at a pinch even Wallingford.
- bottom club Wembley’s win at RR certainly puts the latter well into the danger zone. CCL-PS

Windsor Yateley United 3-4 Rising Ballers Kensington
HELL-1
Abingdon United 2-2 FC Stratford
Kidlington Res 1-1 Cheltenham Saracens Newent Town 2-1 Carterton FC
- poor result for Carteton against relegation rivals
– with the demise of Southam last month, this result drops them into last place, 6 points adrift with less games to play than those around them.Redditch Borough 1-2
Wantage Town – good win keeps ‘Freds’ clear in 2nd but they only have 4 league games remaining.
- Wantage will (almost certainly) not catch leaders, Droitwich Spa who are 6 pts ahead & have 3 games in hand.
- as covered previously, this league’s odd ‘footprint’ stretching up NW and across into W/Mids and Herefords/Shrops, will most likely mean ‘Spa’ won’t move up directly to the Hellenic Premier but return to the Midlands leagues @ STEP05.
- The other PO spots (Ground Grading notwithstanding) look to include Ab.Utd (4th) and yesterday's visitors FC Stratford (3rd). Both of their grounds should be fine for STEP05 (FC share at Stratford Town[STEP03])
- In touching distance of Stonehouse (nr Stroud) in 5th, are Oxon Club Clanfield 85, Shortwood and another 'Midland Refugee' Redditch Borough.
- The latter, suffer serious pitch/drainage issues so have 11 games remaining
– based on my own visits, I’d very much doubt any of the other three , are up to standard unless some refurb has occurred.SCE-1
