Rare Reading Shirt Signatures?

by Scutterbucketz » 25 Jul 2025 17:09

Chaps, a young man I know was recently gifted this shirt and he wants some assistance identifying whose signature is whose on this very rare 2015 shirt that we wore in the Ryans Royals game. It’s Steven Kelly’s match worn shirt, so I know it’s his name on the back, but who is on the front?

Please help out if you can.

Here’s the list of players who featured that day. G Mac OS the only one I can pick out with any confidence.

A Federici
C Gunner
N Aké
A Pearce
M Hector
G McCleary 84'84th minute
N Chalobah
J Karacan (c) 73'73rd minute
H Robson-Kanu 90'90th minute
J Mackie
P Pogrebnyak 84'84th minute
Substitutes

O Norwood 73'73rd minute
H Akpan 84'84th minute
Y Aiyegbeni
N Blackman
M Andersen
J Cooper
K Appiah

Comparing to signed items of the players on eBay could be your best bet.

Note that your spell checker has drafted Chris Gunter into the army.

Cheers chaps. That takes care of all the numbered ones. 44 is K Appiah and is just two 00s. Found Chris Gunter and his number 2.

Yes, good shout. Or at least it would be if Adam Federici managed to sign his name the same way twice :D I exaggerate (slightly).

Anyone know the approx value on this shirt? I know the other match worn shirts made over £7000 collectively, but that was for charity and people will have bidding to raise money. I can’t find any changing hands on eBay recently.

The young man who owns the shirt is thinking he’ll be better off with the cash, rather than it go in a drawer. With the signatures on it, he can’t wear it, so he’d rather just buy the new Reading one.

Surely something like that you'd frame and hang on the wall?

It’s a bit of a longer story than that, but the crux of it is that the young man who was recently given this as a gift probably needs the money more than he needs something on his wall.

He he, but no.

I stand to make nothing from this transaction except the good feeling that comes with helping a person out. :D

He’s special needs and had no idea what he had. His mum nearly put it in the wash. :?

It’s better off going to a collector who can appreciate it’s rarity and he’ll be happy with the money and being able to buy himself the new shirt.

:D

Yeah I think that’s what’ll happen. It’ll be me ebaying it for him though. I have enough old shirts in the back of a closet that I’ve been meaning to frame.

Plus my late night eBay days are long behind me. I haven’t bought anything remotely ridiculous on the spur of a moment in a long time. :?

How much do you think it is that you're fully reformed and sensible, and how much do you worry you're storing up for an epic blow out?

No epic blow out here. The benefits of not drinking are too numerous to overlook. Plus I realised I was drinking to make other people more interesting to me, so now I just avoid them as much as I possibly can

So I spoke with him today and he definitely wants to sell it. If anyone is interested then it’s listed here.
