Jackson Corner This is the worst looking Reading pre season squad l can remember. We may have our club back but it’s going to be a very long painful season. Relegation is a strong possibility based on that shambles.

Jackson, this is most unlike you. What happened to your normal sunny optimistic outlook?

He has a point...the squad is substantially weaker than the last 2 L1 seasons which is the only recent comparison we can make.

He spent the last 5 years at least under a black cloud of complaining about pretty much everything, always.

Granted l am a miserable sod. But compared to the sqaud we had last season this one looks considerably weaker. I hope I’m wrong but we desperately need to strengthen in so many areas. At the moment l can’t see four side’s worse than us.

Agree with you unfortunately. My optimism around playoffs has fast disappeared with the underwhelming transfer period we’ve had so far and can’t really see where the goals are coming from. Things can change fast of course, and no doubt we will continue to add players, but as of today our squad looks pretty weak.

Can’t say I blame him, that utter shambles yesterday was most depressing, a slow ponderous disorganised defence partnered with a non-existent toothless attack. It’s not as if Pompey are going to be the Championship’s Liverpool this season either. I know to a large extent they’re still developing in game partnerships and understandings but you expect something a damn sight better than that by the time you get to the final friendly. If that **** continues into the season RC will have a very difficult decision to make over Noel’s future.

Don`t know what changed from giving Spurs a good game to yesterday, you don`t turn from decent to very bad in the space of seven days. I`ll call it a bad day at the office, but the first month of the season will be pivotal.

Full stadium playing a big team - players were up for it.

I think it was a bit of a that, some poor individual performances from players who should be doing a lot better, dodgy team selections and system from Noel and some lack of quality which can hopefully be helped with a couple of signings

Can’t say I was encouraged but at the same time it’s one poor game after a decent performance against Spurs

The whole thing was a non-event from Reading’s point of view. The fans I spoke to weren't bothered by it, the players didn't look up for it and I think Noel was trying to give players minutes. Doubt he learned anything new.

FWIW, I thought Jacob and Elliott looked way off the pace and not ready to start against Lincoln. Would probably start Kyerewaa over Garcia.

We’re actually gonna start the new season with a far weaker squad under Couhig than we did under Dai in a complete financial crisis!
Although I guess we haven’t had the spectacular part of the transfer window yet

Did they lose to Wycombe yesterday?

No, they played 2 games yesterday drawing 2-2 with Wycombe in the morning and then followed up with a 0-0 at Luton in the afternoon.

Gotta hope Portsmouth was just a bad day at the office/just a PSF because if it's an indicator of how the season is going to go, we're not in for a good time.

I take hope from much better defensive showings against Gillingham and Spurs, where we looked organised and solid.

I worry that was just because of lame attacks, because O'Connor, Burns and Jacobs all looked like they move in slow motion and couldn't read a Spot the Dog book, let alone an attacking move against Pompey, and didn't look any quicker against the others.
