Hound 17 points in 9 games should answer your whinge about the choice of manager

Think we would have had a very similar points haul with hunt in charge. We’ve had a very favourable run of fixtures. In which the performances have been pretty dire.

and whilst all this has been going on Matt Hughes - a well respected journalist for the guardian tweets that the Couhig is considering downgrading the club’s Academy or selling the training ground to increase the funding he can make available to the first team.

Which has forced couhig to come out and deny the story.

Sorry, no smoke without fire. And we are not talking about no mark fake journalist here. Shit is going on behind the scenes and more is to come.

This could be his gamble stake - get a few good players in - hit the playoffs maybe the jackpot (promotion) and then flip the club for a modest return ie get out quick. Maybe has has underestimated how much it needs, maybe him/investors dont have that cash - so best to get out as quick as possible ............. in business investment projects"Fail Fast"

I very much doubt we would on tbe evidence of his previous 15 games or so (which also included some favourable fixtures)

I’m sure he is considering downgrading the academy as well tbh. Any sensible own would at least consider it. We’re not really using it this year player wise and it costs a fortune

Or…. As a public forum about Reading football club people can continue to discuss stuff. You know, like what a forum is designed for - where people can express an opinion about the ongoings at the club. By all means if you want to shut the oxf*rd up, go for it.

Snowflake Royal I'm just assuming brogue has a suit of ai bots scouring the internet 24/7 for any tiny scrap of info he can post up on here and shout "Seeeeeee! I told you Couhig/Trosclair/Jacobson/Richardson were shit!!!!1!!"

Why on earth would you make a point against effective journalism?

One of the few long term assets we have.

Anyway, of the list of Brogue's concerns you've got things you could argue about. These are basically team/on-pitch based. For example, while I thought Hunt's sacking was a joke, I am quietly confident Richardson will come good and the comments about his style of play will fade. Alongside those, there's a few comments on the matchday experience. This isn't important to every fan but you can only imagine the state of the facilities after the last few years.

But the two financial stories that have come out this week and last, both with plenty of evidence that they're (a) real and (b) serious, have simply not had any credible comments regarding their seriousness, or otherwise. There's one post on the other thread saying such things are common in football except a rudimentary check shows that they're not. And certainly not from ex-employees.

I expect a couple more stinkers to come out before too long.

Not like you to be the harbinger of bad news Wooderz (and be wrong)

Just let us enjoy the points escalation meanwhile

You need to be “less tolerant” in 2026

The last line is ‘misplaced’ admittedly (referring to your NY resolution), you're doing well so far.

Well quite I find factual evidence in the depths of companies house on the internet that doesn’t paint the owners in good light - something which STAR are also concerned about and are doing their own digging. And I’m the Cnut for reporting on here :|

come back when we lose our games again, time and time again.

Meanwhile, nobody gives a sh1t what’s happening behind the curtains whilst we are winning.

I don't really have the energy to get worked up over Companies House updates and rumours. We've spent 3 years or so doing that.

For now, things are improving on the pitch, I know we have a club and that the bills will get paid.

When there are concrete reasons for concern I'll turn on the new owners at that point.

What journalism? Posting up something that doesn't say a lot and using it to further an anti-owner bias? That's a low low bar.

Perhaps the two are linked. Afterall it's been reported by some that a winding up order freezes the club's assets. If so, Couhig may be prevented from paying Dai an installment and need to defer the payment as a security whilst this is sorted. Maybe he needs to defer a payment to Dai to sort out Howe and sign a player or two. Maybe it's all a storm in a tea cup. It is afterall, about the 5th winding up order we've had, so it's not exactly forging new ground.

As for downgrading the Academy - it's something the club should have beenn thinking about constantly for the last couple of years. And the Bearwood training ground seems to be astronomically expensive. Together, they're way more than a L1 club can afford and hard for a Champ club to do so. If he can sell the training ground for a cheaper suitable alternative, all power to him. We did fine at the old place.

I'll worry when there's something hard to worry about.

Too many of our fans still haven't learnt the lesson of overspending.

Given that the document isn't actually signed by anyone from Rehne - only Couhig for both Bearwood and Redwood, is this potentially just a house keeping exercise - i.e. when the full deal was struck, Bearwood wasn't paid for, so Rehne kept a security over it and this is just a formal logging of this?

There will be a payment schedule that we are not party to.

Does the lack of signature from Rehne have any real baring here?

I think Brogue is entitled to his opinions and to be sceptical about the new owners, especially after the shitshow of the last few years.

I suspect that when DY sold the club to RC a proportion of money was held back by RC to cover any unforeseen liabilities etc. Rob was here for a court case late last year and I am guessing that £3.75m is the agreed settlement figure. Part of it may have already been paid, but either way I am not worried about it.

The journalist has picked up on the document added to the CH website and created a completely different narrative, lazy journalism. I have been told by one very good friend that the club is in a healthy position financially.

Honestly, I have been paranoid about the new owners, but I think I have conditioned myself to expect the worst.

It’s this sort of short term thinking that destroys football clubs for years.
