No worries, Clyde.

Wages were consistently too high for a prolonged period (and probably still are tbh) and were the biggest contributory factor as to why we ran into financial problems.

Plus the constant chopping and changing. In Mendes and McNulty, just on this page, we've two young, seemingly talented players and we got literally eff all out of them.

stealthpapes I don't understand Joseph Mendes.

The one or two games I remember him in, he was absolutely electric. Just looking at transfermarkt and he's 2 starts (scored in both games, including that double vs Villa*) and 10 sub appearances for no more than about 15 minutes. Next season, appears to be 1 start, 1 assist and then an injury and that's it.

Highlights here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK1UML0qKAE

We already knew the wages were too high after Premier League relegation

This was 2016-17 and 2017-18 so relegation was a good few years previous. I don't think many of the relegated team would have still been around - Danny Williams?

Grabban and Mutch were loans in that season, both from Premier League sides.

Sorry, I meant in terms of the period between Premier League relegation to us getting relegated from the Championship (ie. post Madejski), as opposed to any specific players from the relegated side. Wages were consistently too high for a prolonged period (and probably still are tbh) and were the biggest contributory factor as to why we ran into financial problems.

Good point about Grabban and Mutch; we were (hopefully) only paying a proportion of their wages.

Thought Mendes could have really done something with Reading, sadly the succession of clueless managers started about then and it all went pear shaped for him and the team in general.

It’s a while ago now but iirc his knee was permanently knackered whilst he was here. He just wasn’t available for the vast majority of his time. I can barely remember watching him tbh

Clyde1998
@RFCLatest (Twitter) Former #ReadingFC striker Joseph Mendes on a podcast:

• Earned £10,000 p/w first year then £13,000 second year.

• Tevreden and Stam called him and told him how he’d be used.

• Some players were on £30,000 p/w, Mutch and Grabban had ‘salaries that would spin your head.’

We already knew the wages were too high after Premier League relegation, but it's still surprising when you hear what certain individuals made relative to their contribution.

We knew Moore was on crazy money, but if we were paying the likes of Grabban and Mutch £20k+ as well we deserved to go out of business, it's madness.

I only vaguely recognise the name let alone seeing him play.

As Grabban and Mutch were both on loan, you'd like to think we weren't paying anywhere near their full wage - but who knows.

You'd hope, but the PL is insane and they could have been on 40/50/60k and us paying half to a third would still be crazy

Went on to play for a few clubs after but never amounted to much. He was mustard at Dijon though.

just posted (and hastily deleted) exactly the same :)

In other worlds, Chem Campbell comes off of the bench and salvages a point in the 90+6th minute for S-boro’
Gareth Mc provides an assist for Gills

Have just read a bit more about that.
The report said:-
"The often over-zealous Frenchman was already on a yellow card -his 10th of the season-when he rashly fouled George Thomason".

10 yellows and we are only just past half-way in the season.

I think Bindon must be injured as, for the second game running, he was not even on the bench (having started games before the last international break) or has he perhaps been recalled by Forest ?

Femi Azeez playing brilliantly for Millwall. Really seems a top Championship footballer these days. Had his moments as a Royal but never consistant.

Tyler Bindon is and has been recently unwell so was considered too sick to be involved in their game yesterday.

He looked brilliant yesterday

Millwall fans really didn’t rate him at first. Pleased he’s done so well
