The three best players listed in that article are Olise, Musiala, and Bellingham. Each of them took the more unconventional non big 6 move and are probably going to have the more stand out careers.stealthpapes wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 14:17 It also reads that academies (still) aren't good with players that don't fit obvious boxes and/or relatively small players and/or relatively quiet personalities.
Why not apply bosman principles to the international arena? Whereby those players with qualifications for more than one country could move around if they wished by opting for one of their countries for the duration of each tournament. Maybe we could convince Musiala that he's backed the wrong horse, but I think Olise would be quite happy where he is.Sutekh wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 08:27Why not apply bosman principles to the international arena? While not quite the same, England got Rice and Grealish from under the nose of another country. Think Hargreaves played age group football for Wales.Sutekh wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 08:27Why not apply bosman principles to the international arena? 13 Jul 2026 08:51Not forgetting that when Owen Hargreaves made his England debut, he had never lived in Britain and didn't until he joined United 6 years later.stealthpapes wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 06:18While not quite the same, England got Rice and Grealish from under the nose of another country. It’s one of the things I think the national team normally does poorly, should absolutely be looking at edge cases etc.
Quite pleased that Tuchel played Ngumoha, bearing in mind his qualifications at international level.stealthpapes wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 06:18While not quite the same, England got Rice and Grealish from under the nose of another country. Don’t think friendlies and youth football count though so he may well still be “up for grabs” competitively by Nigeria, Guadeloupe and France.West F wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 10:01Quite pleased that Tuchel played Ngumoha, bearing in mind his qualifications at international level.stealthpapes wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 06:18While not quite the same, England got Rice and Grealish from under the nose of another country. That’s what I thought England should have done, I mean what’s the point taking Henderson?West F wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 11:16![]()
Probably should have been in the main squad then. Could have been an option off the bench for the last 15-20 minutes. Guess the French or Nigerians will cap him now.
Yep, spot on. You could have taken Henderson as part of the back room staff. Which would have been safer for him as well. Rio can play off either wing and would have been a nightmare for tiring fullbacks.Sutekh wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 13:11That’s what I thought England should have done, I mean what’s the point taking Henderson?

Remember when the fans all hated him and booed him because they basically didn't know anything about him? Then he was our best player in 2006 (admittedly low bar).stealthpapes wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 13:40Yes.From Despair To Where? wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 08:51Not forgetting that when Owen Hargreaves made his England debut, he had never lived in Britain and didn't until he joined United 6 years later.stealthpapes wrote: ↑13 Jul 2026 06:18
