But with West Ham being desperate to bring money in you wouldn't just pay you'd wait until they get really desperate and will take £65m with the rest in add ons for achieving success like finishing more than one place above the relegation zone.

Spurs can't oxf*rd around. They came extremely close to being relegated.

Man Utd were leading the race for him, and they were adopting that tactic. If Spurs had waited, they wouldn't have got him. They really need to reinforce. Getting a marquee signing early door shows they mean business and helps attract other players (as well as get their own fans to chillax)

West ham must be laughing all the way to the bank.
I could see Summerville or Bowen commanding a fee nearer that amount but he hasn't IMHO shown enough even if he does have age on his side and could improve.

BTW if those other two leave I can't see West Ham being good enough to make an immediate promotion challenge.

Spurs Spending explained with regards to new SCR rules:

Tottenham can spend significant sums because under the new squad-cost ratio rules (SCR) they are allowed to spend up to 85% of their revenue on player costs - player wages, amortisation and agent fees etc.

In their last set of accounts (2024-25), wages and amortisation was only 61%, and this includes all salaries. Clubs do not separate between playing and non-playing staff, although Uefa says that normally about 75% of total wage costs go towards a club's first team.

In addition, Tottenham's new stadium, which can now host up to 30 non-football events a year at full capacity, is proving to be very beneficial.

At their old White Hart Lane ground, annual matchday revenue was £45m and commercial income - which includes concerts and NFL games - was £73m.

At the new stadium those figures were £126m and £277m, respectively, in 2024-25. The additional money coming into the club allows it to spend more under the SCR regime.

While the club has spent a lot of money this summer to date, transfer fees are amortised over the length of the contract, but limited to five years, so a £240m spend this summer equates to a £48m amortisation fee.

Tottenham's total revenue for 2024-25 was £565m. Under SCR rules they would be able to spend up to £480m a year on their squad.

I am not great with the whole financial regulations, but being able to spend roughly £480M per season sounds miles above what they were allowed to spend under PSR rules.

I do get that its a 'reward' for pushing their revenues so high. but £480M sounds crazy. unless I am remembering wrong.

Makes me think SCR could be the thing that pushes Spurs into being a team fighting for the top few spots in the league.

I would like to see a list of PL clubs and how much SCR would previously allowed them to spend per season.

Interesting*. Presumably that's why Liverpool have an annual summer series of concerts now. Zach Bryan, Foo Fighters and My Chemical Romance this year. Springsteen, Dua Lipa and Lana Del Rey in 2025.
