I heard Selles might be going to Hull!AthleticoSpizz wrote:…..anyways
Close the thread, Cardiff have appointed Riza until the end of the season (at least)…they will not be hiring Selles

Of course, only Selles knows why Hull have lured him away from the royal county but I agree, on the face of it it seems a questionable move.leon wrote:Football people's career decision making never fails to amaze me. Particularly managers. They really aren't very clever and chasing the latest shiny bauble thinking it will be different for them.
Any more questions?morganb wrote:How does the Hull squad compare to ours?
What style do they play?
Do they have any real standout players?
Are they all wizened old pros who might not adapt to his style and be disruptive (see: Carroll, A)?
Which of our players, if any, do we think he'll come back for in the January window?
Absolutely none.morganb wrote:How does the Hull squad compare to ours?

His reasoning is obvious.AthleticoSpizz wrote:(yet) Once again
Let’s us hear his (Selles) reasoning before we cast judgement on his decision
(I feel sure it won’t be the generic “a bigger club with stellar ambitions and ownership” bs)….and is this his “first opportunity”?
Let’s wait a bit

About a million miles away.Carnabyswhiskers wrote:Given the circumstances under which he has operated, how close is Selles to unseating Coppell as our greatest ever manager? No comparison on the playing record, so probably not. But had he stuck around and got promotion with this group of players under this regime, which way would other posters have gone?
I’d have him behind McGhee too. Now we just have to wait to see who goes with him in January.tidus_mi2 wrote:I'd rank Selles about 4th behind Coppell, McDermott and Pardew.
I predict he'll go in, get a small bump as a fresh voice with players keen to impress. He'll go heavy on his style which will initiall impress with work rate, but won't adapt it quickly enough to the squad at his disposal.Hound wrote:It’s different circumstances with Selles. A lot of his popularity has come from how he has handled the situation and comes over as a thoroughly decent chap. The refusal to criticise referees, opposition etc as well
He’s proven to be a good to excellent manager once he settled in and a fantastic man manager. Whether he has the ability to transfer this everywhere he goes - be interesting to see
In terms of Hull, they were absolutely abysmal in the pre season friendly. I think he has his work cut out there from the look of them and their chairman
I can see him taking an interest in Savage, Elliott and Knibbs if they are going cheap in Jan. possibly a couple of youth lads who thinks have the potential - maybe a Spencer or Ahmed for example
Anyway good luck to him. I’ve always liked him as a person even if he had a rocky start. Deserves to do well somewhere and will keep an eye on how he goes

I'd have McGhee ahead of Pardew, we were based at Elm Park then and Pardew was given significant funds to spend for third tier,tidus_mi2 wrote:I'd rank Selles about 4th behind Coppell, McDermott and Pardew.
Everyone seems to have rose-tinted glasses! Do they forget his start at RFC - insisting on 4-2-2-2? Do they forget him dragging players over to fans at the end of a match and the players being abused by the fans?Mid Sussex Royal wrote:I'd have McGhee ahead of Pardew, we were based at Elm Park then and Pardew was given significant funds to spend for third tier,tidus_mi2 wrote:I'd rank Selles about 4th behind Coppell, McDermott and Pardew.
To be fair, I was basing that off my time supporting Reading, which started with Pardew, probably should have mentioned that.Mid Sussex Royal wrote:I'd have McGhee ahead of Pardew, we were based at Elm Park then and Pardew was given significant funds to spend for third tier,tidus_mi2 wrote:I'd rank Selles about 4th behind Coppell, McDermott and Pardew.
Still nothing official....WestYorksRoyal wrote:If we were waiting on good news, this is about the stage it would all go quiet and nothing would happen.
