Seriously we need to give the manager a chance, surely?
I’d have agreed with you before the Blackburn and Fulham match leonSnowflake Royal wrote:We could do with hiring one first.leon wrote:Can we stop sacking managers?

Gomes got John Swift sent off? Interesting.WoodleyRoyal wrote:He’s got to go after that.
Really? Again? FFS.Sutekh wrote:Now official that this season is the worst start to a league season for Reading outside of the PL for the last 20 years or so.
His record since becoming manager is appalling. We need stability, obviously, but he's floundering.Hound wrote:I’d have agreed with you before the Blackburn and Fulham match leonSnowflake Royal wrote:We could do with hiring one first.leon wrote:Can we stop sacking managers?

But he looks hopelessly out of his depth. There are decent managers available. Tonight was as bad a performance as I’ve seen at home
It's not just a bad few weeks though, is it? It's a bad 2 and a half years... patience is obviously going to wear thinner amongst the fanbase each time.Elm Park Kid wrote:Are you guys being serious with this or just blowing off steam?
Because .. . . if you can't handle a bad few weeks then it might be time to shut RFC down as there's no point carrying on. You'll never be pleased.
But Gomes has only had a half decent squad for about 6 weeks?genome wrote:It's not just a bad few weeks though, is it? Well, the concern is he's not getting results, despite that significant investment. We should be seeing improvement by now, not a brief upturn in form followed by a series of awful performances and results.Elm Park Kid wrote:But Gomes has only had a half decent squad for about 6 weeks?genome wrote:It's not just a bad few weeks though, is it? We lost that game before Swift got sent off.Old Man Andrews wrote:Gomes got John Swift sent off? Interesting.WoodleyRoyal wrote:He’s got to go after that.
Unfortunately Chris Hughton can afford to hang on for a club in a better position than ourselves his stock is higher than Reading at the moment.Sutekh wrote:Let’s hope the club have Chris Hughton’s number, think they should start calling now.
It was 0-1.....Snowflake Royal wrote:We lost that game before Swift got sent off.Old Man Andrews wrote:Gomes got John Swift sent off? Interesting.WoodleyRoyal wrote:He’s got to go after that.
They were tearing us apart and we've come from behind just once to get a single point. Lightning wasn't going to strike twice in two games. Fulham barely had to turn up.Old Man Andrews wrote:It was 0-1.....Snowflake Royal wrote:We lost that game before Swift got sent off.Old Man Andrews wrote: Gomes got John Swift sent off? Do we? We've spent a bit of money and had a good week a month ago. Doesn't mean we have a good squad on anything other than paper.2 world wars, 1 world cup wrote:Gomes backer here.
"We can make the playoffs" neck-sticker-outer here.
Yes sadly I agree we lost the game before Swift was sent off. One could even argue Swift was just generally pissed off at how we were doing.
What baffles me is this was so unnecessary. We genuinely have a very good squad. We stumbled across a good starting 11 and a good system that stood the test of a few games and just needed to be built on. In the words of Greta Thunberg "this is all wrong".
We can easily pull it round. Gomes is the man, and we have good players. My only concern at this point is confidence. It's a fragile thing, and once the players lose confidence in themselves and in you as the boss it's a slippery slope. Big test for Gomes now. Back to basics. 5-3-2 with the best team out but not so crazy with attack leaving defence open. Get some confidence and belief back.
