He's Graeme Murty in reverse. Murts had been pretty much ever present at York, he got here, joined 1 training session and was promptly out for 6 months.Hound wrote:No surprise. I think Marriott is out for most of November (on X), but there's been nothing official on that or from any journos.Hound wrote:With Wigan being off; should everyone except Fraser be back for our next game? Out for 4-6 weeks from beginning of November, so likely to be out until the Xmas games start being played.Mid Sussex Royal wrote:I think Marriott is out for most of November (on X), but there's been nothing official on that or from any journos.Hound wrote:With Wigan being off; should everyone except Fraser be back for our next game? Am I imagining it or wasn't it subsequently discovered that one of his legs was a slightly different length to the other? Problem solved with a boot insert or something similar?Sutekh wrote:He's Graeme Murty in reverse. I believe it's possible to undertake the wrong format of intensive training that will do little to improve overall fitness but lead to an increased risk of injury.Vision wrote:If it was that intense then the argument about Carlisle being fitter than us doesn’t really wash.Mid Sussex Royal wrote:Yes - but I don't think any of the players have been out longer than anticipated apart from maybe O'Conner.Linden Jones' Tash wrote:Isn't Josh Bowen responsible for this department at Reading FC....?
All these muscle injuries/fatigue have been caused at least partly by Hunt's training regime which he admitted himself was intense.
.
If we are relatively successful til then, with the window opening shortly after, fair chance he won’t be getting back in the side imo if he’s out that long. Definitely in his own interest to get back soonerSutekh wrote:Out for 4-6 weeks from beginning of November, so likely to be out until the Xmas games start being played.Mid Sussex Royal wrote:I think Marriott is out for most of November (on X), but there's been nothing official on that or from any journos.Hound wrote:With Wigan being off; should everyone except Fraser be back for our next game? Just checking - do you expect Kelvin E and/or MOM to keep a fit Marriott out of the side and then for Couhig to bring in a (better) striker in the January window?Hound wrote:If we are relatively successful til then, with the window opening shortly after, fair chance he won’t be getting back in the side imo if he’s out that long. I'm looking forward to welcoming that fantastic new striker who will produce a better strike rate than Marriott has done since he joined and keep him out of the sidemorganb wrote:Just checking - do you expect Kelvin E and/or MOM to keep a fit Marriott out of the side and then for Couhig to bring in a (better) striker in the January window?Hound wrote:If we are relatively successful til then, with the window opening shortly after, fair chance he won’t be getting back in the side imo if he’s out that long. Admittedly we now have a new manager but neither of these things happened earlier in the season so not sure either will happen now
A fit KE yes. And yes a different sort of striker in Jan. LR will undoubtedly have someone in mind, Hunt seemed to have MoM in mind, it just don’t work ormorganb wrote:Just checking - do you expect Kelvin E and/or MOM to keep a fit Marriott out of the side and then for Couhig to bring in a (better) striker in the January window?Hound wrote:If we are relatively successful til then, with the window opening shortly after, fair chance he won’t be getting back in the side imo if he’s out that long. +1 he's completely ineffectual in games outside of his goals, most of which have been opportunistic tap in's . He doesn't work the channels or press the oppositions defense, he cant hold the ball up, or play with his back to goal. He's very much a sub striker who feeds off scraps in the box. Not someone who can lead the line for us. If MoM scores a few to get his season going i see him as a much more suitable striker for the second half of the season than Marriott. If kelvin plays like he did against Stevenage then there is no way Marriott starts ahead of him.Hound wrote:A fit KE yes. And yes a different sort of striker in Jan. To the other poster - scoring 6 in 8 or whatever is no good if your team doesn’t win when you play. He is prob an occasional starter/sub at this level
We’ve scored in our last 13 league games, 6 of which he played. We’ve got 7 points from 3 games since he got injured (and scored 2 vs Carlisle in the cup)LUX wrote:Yes but we still need a goalscorer. How many have we scored since Marriot started his run of goals? How many of those were not his?
I feel like scoring more than 1 has been our major problem this year and results in us drawing too many games.Hound wrote:We’ve scored in our last 13 league games, 6 of which he played. Goal scoring isn’t actually an issue for us and hasn’t been all season. In fact I think the only games we haven’t scored in all season in all comps are the first 2 and then Wrexham in the cup.
8 team goals in 6 when he played, 19 in 15 for the whole season. Barely makes any difference at all

One against Doncaster, IIRC.Snowflake Royal wrote:Hound loves the stat about results with and without Marriott, but how many games has he played with Williams and O'Connor together at the back, two huge difference makers in terms of our ability to concede fewer goals?
Williams and O'Connor stopping things leaking, whilst Marriott scores almost a goal a game and you'll quickly see results improve

I'd say having Williams and O'Connor playing together has been the biggest factor in our recent uptick in league results.
